NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) – Biliran Police Provincial Office (BPPO) contingent of 53 able-bodied and young police officers form part of the security force for the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders Meeting from November 18 to 19, according to SPO1 Narlu Arceo BPPO.

Arceo said, the 53 uniformed men from the different Municipal Police Stations (MPS) in Biliran and from the BPPO left for Manila last Friday, Nov. 13, via land to augment the police force in the National Capital Region (NCR) to help maintain peace and order under the crowd dispersal unit (CDU) in Manila as the APEC venue.

Expected to possibly excounter groups of rallyists, freedom fighters, and other discontented angry mobs who wanted to air their sentiments during the APEC leaders meeting, deployed officers were chosen from young generation of officers ranging from ages 23-36 to stand the tension, Arceo said.

Deployed officers are expected to stay in the country’s capital city for 10-15 days to secure the venue, the country’s citizens, and the APEC contingents. Said officers are also given enough time to secure their personal belongings to take home after the APEC activities, added Arceo.

APEC’s primary goal is to support sustainable economic growth and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region by championing free and open trade and investment, promoting and accelerating regional economic integration, encouraging economic and technical cooperation, enhancing human security, and facilitating a favorable and sustainable business environment. # (fj/PIA8 Biliran)
