Hi, I'm here in the U.S. and use chikka to text my gf in the phils. However, sometimes it is unreliable like today, she can see my text to her phone but chikka is not sending her text to me. Anyone have a better alternative to chikka? A program to text from pc to mobile phone, even if it not free or not, suggestions are very much welcome and wanted, Salamat po

    papa,

I recommend you buy VoiceIP for your girlfriend.

30 Dollars per month,. Unlimited call..

and Internet Connection as low as 1,000 pesos.

Thanks for the replies I know it's been a while since I've been on here. Actually I was just there in Phils and Biliran a week ago wow what a beautiful island. Anyway, I've tried using yahoo messenger before without success however today I tried it again and its working fine, she gets charged 2.5peso per text to me, and chikka is having problems again today . I did a little research and found a promising site http://www.wapot.com/index.php that says it charges only 1 peso per text and pc to phone is free, however it appears as if the site is under construction. Jalmz do you have a link for the VoiceIP? That sounds like a great price $30 per month.

    Papa,
If your gf has an internet connection at home, you may try magicjack (www.magicjack.com) and send it to your gf so she call you unlimited and anytime.Only one-time payment of $46 (product and shipping)for a year, no more monthly bill. I can vouch to this service as my family is using this to call me on landline or cellphone, it works like VOIP, but without monthly bill. If she has no internet at home, she can use it in any internet cafe to call you even if you are not online. Chikka and YM still works fine with me though...

    hi Jalmz,
Musta? hehe. Yes i've tried it... It works really great! Works anywhere with broadband connection, no monthly bills, just unlimited talking!! Most of my friends who has internet at home have it, as its so much cheaper than vonange or skype... Just let your relatives in the US buy it,then send it to you... Here's a link to answer all your questions:

alright fellaz, i have not seen this method posted on the internet yet, so i thot i'd pay it forward and hopefully this is the answer that some of you are looking for... it CERTAINLY was for me....
anyway, i've been using Chikka for over a year now, and to be honest it worked well before, but it has been extremely unstable the past couple months... as much as 3/4 of the txts (both directions) not received, or hella delayed.. as you know, chikka free for us, but P2.5 each txt for them... but this can quickly add up, especially if you txt alot...
so i'll cut to the chase, this is what I now do to have unlimited texting with my gurl in PI for just $25/mo... and this covers both hers and my costs.. to start with, both of us have Yahoo Messenger accounts, which we use anytime we are on the computers.. but unfortunately she does not have internet at home.. anyway, there's a forwarding service on Yahoo messenger ("Sign in to mobile device") that sends any messages received directly to your cell phone... i have AT&T service, so i added Unlimited Texting for $15/mo... now be carefull, this is NOT unlimited texting to other countries! but it allows me to txt to and receive from my Yahoo Messenger service without paying per message...............
Now, as for my gurl in PI... i had her switch to a SunCellular sim, which offers Unlimited Yahoo Messenger txting service. here's the link..
    http://www.suncellular.com.ph/FAQiMessenger.aspx
This costs P100 per week, and they have unlimited texting with their Yahoo Messenger accounts, right onto their cell phones, without having to sit in front of a computer! This is essentially the same as the 'forwarding' service i have to my phone..
SOOO, add up the costs, it boils down to $25/mo.... now using Chikka, which has been extremely unstable for me lately, $25 would cover about 5 text messages per day.. but my gurl and i txt way more often then that -- probably 30-40txts... so this is an enormous savings for me. and the best thing, is that we both are using our mobile phones!! as for performance, we've been using this for 2 weeks now... and not a single missed txt... messages are received very fast.. when i was voice talking and testing it out, was averaging 5-10 second transmit... this method is a little tricky to setup, but once u do, it works seamlessly, just as u normally text with your fone.. this has been a Godsend for me, and if any of you are doing any significant texting to the PI, it would be worthwhile to check out... hope i explained this well, but contact me if you need any help setting up!

    cheers!
