Balik Naval International 2007 medical mission gets a resounding success

Naval, Biliran (October 24) – It was a resounding success for the Balik Naval International 2007 Medical Mission that was conducted in the municipality of Naval last October 2-12 as many patients particularly the Navalenos and those coming from the other municipalities of the province availed of the free medical, dental and surgical services rendered by the balikbayan doctors from Naval who worked abroad.
In an interview with Mrs. Teresita Eamiguel Strozier, the over-all coordinator of the Medical Mission Team, she informed that for the duration of the medical mission in Naval town and those conducted in identified barangays in the area, some 3,000 patients availed of the free medical treatment of their illnesses. ASPIRING BRGY , SK CANDIDATES HAVE UNTIL OCT 18 TO FILE THEIR COCS

Tacloban City (October 11) – With the deadline for filing of certificate of candidacy for the October 29 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections just 8 days away, the expected 170,000 would-be candidates all over Region 8 are now prantic.
The Commission on Election (Comelec) has reset the dates for the filing of candidacy for the synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections to September 28 – October 8, instead of the September 14 to September 19 which was the original schedule.
This is contained in the Comelec Resolution No. 8301 promulgated on September 13, 2007 which amends Resolutions No. 8297 and 8298 by resetting the period for the filing of certificates of candidacy.
The filing of candidacy will start on September 29, 2007 and to end on October 18, 2007, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
The Comelec said that the resetting of the dates is to ensure accomplishment of the activities in preparation for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections and so as not to deprive voters of their right of suffrage, the Commission finds it necessary to adjust certain periods in the election calendar. Military arrests top NPA leader in biliran

Tacloban City (October 8) — Communist Terrorist Leader Nicholas Ybanez y Payod alias Botoy or Junior was arrested on September 30, 2007 at a communist safehouse in Sitio Kadama, Barangay Lucso-on, Naval, Biliran.

The arrest was made by the elements of the 19th Infantry (Commando) Battalion led by Lt. Col Henry L. Bumiltac, PA, newly installed Commanding Officer, in joint effort with 82nd Military Intelligence Company, 8th Military Intelligence Battalion.

Arrested Communist Terrorist Leader (CTL) Nicholas Ybanez Y. Payod who is a native of Barangay Biliboy, Ormoc City, is the Secretary of Education Department -Party Branch EXECOM, NLF, EVRPC and the current Team Leader of Biliran Island White Area Group (BIWAG) of the underground Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee, Communist Party of the Philippines.

BI: British man held for Biliran girl’s rape

The Bureau of Immigration on Thursday said a British national has been arrested for allegedly raping 17-year-old girl in Biliran province, DZMM reported.

BI Commissioner Marcelino Libanan identified the suspect as 67-year-old Thomas James Ilipe.

Libanan said deportation proceedings have already been implemented against the suspect .

The BI chief made the announcement after receiving a complaint from Biliran Rep. Glenn Chong.

In his complaint, the congressman said Ilipe brought the victim to Manila from Tacloban City in Leyte province.

The victim was rescued after BI agents at a restaurant in Alabang Town Center in Muntinlupa City.

The suspect faces charges for violating the anti-child abuse law. He is at the BI’s detention center in Bicutan, Taguig City. With a report from Glenn Carlos

Naval, Biliran (28 September) – The early morning scattered rainshowers and the threatening sight of a heavy cloudy sky were two of the not so good heavenly phenomena which gave a signal that a heavy rain is coming.
Despite the uncooperative weather on that early morning of September 26, Navaleños as far as from the mountain barangay of Libtong and from the island barangays of Libertad and Mabini situated in Higatangan island were part of the large and animated crowd who were very much willing to participate and took part in the historic event which is the 147th Pueblo Day of Naval.
