MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has started a full investigation into the ambush on the father of Biliran Rep. Glenn Chong in Biliran province over the weekend.
Radio dzBB’s Benjie Liwanag Jr reported that PNP chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr ordered the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to check the motive behind the incident.
He said the CIDG can start with “Saul,” an active policeman now in custody and who was linked to the ambush.
At least two bodyguards were killed while a third one was seriously wounded in an ambush on Charlie Chong in Naval town Saturday night.
Earlier reports indicated local police suspect politics to be the motive behind the attack on the elder Chong, who was unhurt in the ambush.
Initial police reports indicated at least four men, one of them a policeman, fired at the elder Chong and his bodyguards near the intended victim’s house.
Killed were Alberto Parilla, a former village chairman of Rosario village, who was shot in the stomach; and Antonio Barcelo, who was shot in the back.
Rep. Chong said his bodyguards managed to identify one of the suspects as “Saul,” said to be assigned to the Naval town police headquarters. “Saul” was reportedly in police custody as of Sunday evening.
The congressman, 33, is a member of the Liberal Party and is a lawyer and certified public accountant.
Naval is a fourth-class town with a population of 37,974 people in 7,990 households. – GMANews.TV

Wow, I cant imagine the chaos that happen in Naval Biliran infact its just a small town and now there are lots of crime happening there? This is totally ridiculous , I guess its politics…I just reminiscing the olden times when i was a kid coz i grow up in Naval and studied there for 2 yrs the people there are pretty laid back and its a peaceful place to live but now it turns into nightmare…I hope that the family of Joann Chong right now are okay, sooner or later the truth will prevail…In behalf of the Maglasang Family i would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the Family of ” Inton Parilla” coz he is our close family friend…May he rest in peace…god bless to all the Biliranon people…

what a sad plight for the victims of such crime. no human being has the right o take away someone else’s life especially in such manner. what happended to the peace-loving biliranons we once knew? where are they now? why do we allow “political battle” and hatred reign over our deeply-rooted moral values. the scenario is just the same as what happened to the late governor danilo parilla… politics has taken all over the province that we have forgotten the consequences it might lead us to. let us not forget that this is a VERY BAD EXAMPLE we are showing the future generation of biliranons. for everybody’s safety, i hope these people will realize the extent of their ‘wrongdoings”.
my condolences to the bereaved families and by the way, the “victims” i am referring to are not only the dead ones but the biliranons as a whole. we are the victims here of a battle between “stupid, uneducated and unprofessional political issues” thrown by unprofessional politicians.

First I would like to offer my prayers to the families of those who were ruthlessly slain by those cowardly thugs. They need to know what comes around goes around. That is not a threat, but it is indeed the law of God. They can run, but they can’t hide from the almighty father. It is easy to rush to judgment and blame the Espina family for this, but let’s see where the facts really lead. If Espina really does have something to do with this, he must face justice in a court of law. No such thing as paying people off to get out of it. Like one poster said, Biliran belongs to the people, NOT to the political families. The peace loving, and good people of Biliran deserve better then this. Remember “people power”. We citizens of this province can take back the island from the political “mafia” that pollutes our society. I may be naive, but it is time for us to elect good leaders who really want to serve the people, and not let unscrupulous politicians buy your votes just because you are desperate for money. Think about the future of your children and grandchildren. A few extra pesos for selling your vote won’t make up for years of misery under the rule of a family such as Espina. Because of so many hurting words hurled against my firend, I can’t just be silent and let others continue hurting his reputation. I am just too concerned about my friend Renato B. Saul who is one of the suspects of the killings. I don’t believe he did it becasue what I know about him is he is a God-fearing and peace loving person. It is the nature of his job that puts his life at risk always. I am writing this to defend an innocent person whose life, family and his future will be destroyed by dirty politicians in Biliran. He is a good cop and based on his records, he never was involved in any illegal and unscrupolous activities. Why put a maliscious meaning on the shirts he wears? The party at the beach where he and his family and friends were having was a private affair. I just don’t understand the pupose of the person taking those pictures and video clips at put them in this website. At present, we don’t really know the truth! Let us wait for the result of the investigation. Let us not be judgmental. I deeply extend my sympathy to the relatives and friends of the ambush victims . Like you, I wish that the truth will prevail and that peace will reign in BIiliran.
