Naval, Biliran — Biliranons were excited when it was announced yesterday morning that Pinoy Idol Finalist Gretchen Espina will have a provincial tour today, August 5, 2008. Fascinated by the fact that the GMA 7 Kapuso network will be taking a coverage and the Pinoy Idol Hopefuls will be making a show, everyone made preparations like cleaning of the school grounds. But the excitement turned into a big disappointment when all of a sudden, the tour was cancelled. Many expectants fell into disbelief and were very upset.

BiliranIsland.com staff was given a chance to interview Gretchen via phone. She said it’s not their fault because the production staff decided to change plans. it was a sudden change of plans.

“To the people who prepared and expected me to be there, I’m really sorry. I think I’m not supposed to know that I’ll be coming home. The other contestants are having the same problem too in their hometowns”, she explained.

She further added, “I missed everyone there. I hope I can go home. You will be hearing from me soon. Thank you for everything”.

Gretchen is really saddened by the abrupt cancellation of the homecoming. She said that they don’t have a hold of their schedule. She promised to do a mini-concert when she’ll be home.

  1. You have got to be kidding me! The only reason why her “homecoming” was canceled because the Espina family are afraid that it will turn out to be an embarrassment on their end. They have to face the fact that her “homecoming” is not something that the people of Naval anticipated for. They need to quit spinning the truth!!! Gretchen Espina only represents the Espinas not the province of Biliran. Biliran is not her “home”, Biliran is the milking cow of the Espinas to continue living a lavish lifestyle and feed their need for power and greed.

    What they need to do is stop pretending that the people of Biliran cares for them because we don’t. Got that!

    1. Her supporters do not read this blog.
    2. She is just not good enough to be in the Top 3. Look at some of the comments about Gretchen in the past entries which reached over 120 comments. Let’s start…

    To answer all the posts here regarding Gretchen Espina it is very much true that her dad (the governor)bought loads of cell cards and gave it to all the employees of the capitol to be used in a massive voting campaign for her. This has become a widely known topic in the province since the Espina family has been accused of plotting murder against their political opponents and graft and corruption. Gretchen Espina was not born in Biliran as she claimed and certainly did not grow up in the province. Most of the people in Biliran are well below poverty level so it makes you question why she has been doing well in the votes. The people of Biliran would rather buy food for their family than pay for the text votes. It is a sad reality that someone like her has a chance of winning becuase of the political connections of the family. The Espina family will not stop until they can make her win and that is the truth. And that is coming also from a Biliranon who witnessed first hand how manipulative this family is.

  34. Kawawa naman ang mga so called supporters ni Gretchen. Na frustrate masyado kaya gusto nila i-hack and biliran island website. Hey, if the heat is too much for you guys then feel free to make your Gretchen fan site. But as you can see, there is not a lot of people enamored by her. This just concludes that most of her supporters are none other than her own family and their 15/30 cronies.

    I feel sorry for those investors if Gretchen wins. As an investor, I make sure that the product I will be investing is worth the risk and can give me an ROI. I will not bet a penny on her. However it looks like Pinoy Idol has lost every credibility and is now known as “Pera Idol.” Suits Gretchen just fine.

    FOR the lone district of Biliran, it was the neophyte lawyer Glenn Ang Chong who emerged victorious toppling the 72-year-old Mayor Gerry Espina, Sr. of Kampi. Congressman Chong is only 32 years old who idealistically chose to run under the banner of the Liberal Party.

    Chong is a multi-awarded and a consistent honor student. A valedictorian both in the elementary and high school, he was also an awardee of the Gerry Roxas Leadership in
    1991. In 1989, he was selected to head the Cebu City Anti-Drug Abuse Council-CIT Chapter and Editor-in-Chief of their school paper, the CIT Junior Technologian. In college, he served as the representative of the College of Commerce, CIT-SSG, in the House of Representatives in 1995-1996. He was also an excellence awardee of the SGV and CO/Arthur Andersen in the same year. During his days at the college of law in the University of San Carlos, he was class valedictorian and a consistent member and awardee of the law debating team.

    At present, Chong is a professor at NITUEP College of Law. He is also the current chief operating officer of A&C Enterprises. He became a Certified Public Accountant in November 18, 1998 and eventually passed the bar examination in May 3, 2004.

    An inspiration to the youths of Biliran? What has she done to become an inspiration? She is where she is now because the dad paid people to do a massive text campaign to vote for Gretchen. Please read all blogs about the current results of the top 3 of PI. None have been positive so far and even accused the TV company of fixing the results. Gretchen is a mediocre performer, sure she can carry a tune but that’s about it. She has no personality, okay face and overall not very marketable. Period!
