Naval, Biliran (5 January) – As the Christian community will celebrate tomorrow (January 6, 2009) the Three Kings which is the culminating activity of the yuletide season, it is but worthwhile to reminisce the happy faces of the 500 children coming from the poor families living in some barangays in Naval who received gifts in December of last year.
These children aged 6 to 12 year old coming from Sitio Laka of Barangay Smo. Rosario, Sitio San Roque (Gobalin) of Barangay Larrazabal, Sitio Bliss of Barangay Calumpang, Barangays Sto. Nino, Larrazabal and Catmon went home with pair of sandals, toothbrush, toothpaste and a pack of assorted snack items.
The gift giving activity is a flip flop project sponsored by benevolent and kindhearted Navalenos living abroad led by Nita Sablada Matheson of Virginia, USA in coordination with her friends namely: Barbra Matheson, Zeny Alvero, Dee de Lera, Cheryl Dorsey. Cora Arca, Dely Schresab, Ela Garcia, Lilia Friles and Joan King.
It can be recalled that it was Nita Sablada Matheson who donated 10 sets of computers to the computer laboratory in Naval Central School named after her husband William Matheson.
The project was made successful through the able help and assistance of the volunteers who helped in the recruitment of the poor kids, packing of the gift items and other related work namely: Letty Carreon, Marivic Guevarra, Cesar Sacare and project manager Maria P. Victorioso.
