Biliran Island Guestbook
I visited Biliran last December. Before I went, I did a research online about what the Island is all about. I’ve read an article that described the Island as “paradise, unspoiled… with exquisite beaches…”
Here is my reaction to that article after my visit:
Paradise? Unspoiled? Exquisite beaches? Are you freakin’ out of your mind? Where else have you traveled around the world? Do you really know what you are talking about? My apology but Biliran Island is not a paradise! It is not unspoiled! I was just there last December as I was invited by a friend, there is really nothing out of the ordinary about Biliran. There is not much history and culture but instead there is OVERWHELMING POVERTY. Biliran has the WORST roads I have ever seen in my life. I could not understand what is your local government doing about it. There are so many segments of the roads that are so bad that I could not believe your government never did anything about it in hundreds of years. The situation of the roads are still stuck in the early 19th century era. It is so sickening that I prayed your government officials will get into an accident in those roads so they will realize how bad the situation is.
There is hardly any sign of history on the island. No beautiful ruins. Nada! And what rice terraces are you talking about? Are you just being funny or outright stupid? Yours is a product of hallucination. Please don’t exaggerate your journalism. I had seen the Banawue rice terraces that you are comparing it to. Dahlin’, you’re like comparing a flawless diamond to a pebble.
Unspoiled? Do you have an accurate understanding of what UNSPOILED is? Honey, go around Biliran and find out where are those thousands of Islanders disposing their garbage. The entire Biliran Island does not have any waste/garbage disposal system that people just toss their refuse/garbage straight to the rivers and the seashore. Every other household has a pig pen (OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY GOODNESS IT WAS FILTHY)and the WASTES from the pig pen drain straight to the rivers and/or to the sea. And on many, many occasions I had seen a lot of people #%$## on the beach, on the riverside and stray pigs and dogs come and eat the waste. YUcky, yucky, yucky! Now tell me again that the island is unspoiled.
I’m sorry but I am just clarifying the facts because your portrayal of the island is very delusional. HOWEVER, I GIVE CREDIT TO THE ISLANDERS FOR BEING SOOOOOO NICE, SO SWEET AND HOSPITABLE. I was there for 3 weeks and as a foreigner I was treated very, very, very kindly. I do miss that part. I love the people sooooo much. But sorry, it is no freakin’ paradise, give me a break.
Now, please give this e-mail to your local government who I think is doing nothing but SUCKING every single cent of the PEOPLE’s money. The government officials should be crucified up-side-down and/or be incarcerated in those thousands of pig pens… yikes!
