TACLOBAN CITY- The Philippine National Oil Company-Alternative Fuel Corporation (PNOC-AFC), in coordination with the Rotary Club of Leyte Gulf, PNP medical team and the An Waray partylist, has conducted a one-day medical mission in the municipality of Cabucgayan, Biliran province the other day.
Director Raffy Salazar of the PNOC-AFC told Leyte Samar Daily Express that the medical mission is one of the projects of the PNOC-AFC and in coordination with the Rotary Club of Leyte Gulf has served more than 1,500 indigent people from all barangays in Cabucgayan who availed of free dental, surgery, circumcision and eye glasses.
Director Salazar said that the same group will hold their second round of medical mission in the island municipality of Maripipi on Sept. 19. He added that conduct this medical mission upon the request of municipal officials.
Salazar added that this medical mission was not the first to be conducted by the Rotary Club of Leyte Gulf and the PNOC-AFC in the province of Biliran.
“The Rotary Club of Leyte Gulf is continuing their programs to serve the people of Biliran especially giving this medical mission kay amo ini an mission and vision han Rotary Club of Leyte Gulf, pag hatag hin maupay nga serbisyo ngada han mga katawhan pinaaagi hini nga medical mission,” Salazar said.
He also said that the thrust now of the PNOC-AFC is to keep on planting more jathropa to alleviate the poverty of the people of Biliran.
“Ito ngayon ang binigyan nang malaking attention ng ating gobyerno through President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, na magtanim nang maraming jathropa para makakuha tayo nang mariming langis through biofuel in the province of Biliran where more than 5,000 hectares were planted with jathropa,” Salazar said.
The program now of the PNOC-AFC is to give assistance to farmers through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) as their cooperative handles the planting of more jathropa in Biliran Province.
“There are now more cooperatives engaged in jathropa planting and they have already received money from the PNOC-AFC, talagang seryoso an ating gobyerno na mabigyan sila nang trabajo through this,” he said.
He also encouraged owners of some lands in Eastern Visayas to plant jathropa. (LITO ABALA BAGUNAS)
