We are not after the kind of family mayor Susan has as you alleged. Who has a perfect family at all anyway? probably yours is but how and why it is perfect?

a. Was there any anomaly in the Mayors office that she instigated herself while she is in office?

Well if what you preempt is true then give us convincing reasons why we have to subscribe Charlie Chan as our governor…

Please let us all know his plata porma de politica as well as his prospective plans in making a difference to the present political situation in Biliran. What rectifications will he need to address to the outstanding issues that the island’s political climate is now experiencing?

I come to know him as well .His PR is good but we have considered GC’s father as our option should Mayor Susan will choose to run her second term as Naval Mayor. I believe GC made his point and we have been convinced of his justifications.

Actually, i don’t know yet d political flatform of Mayor Chan but i believe he will be a good governor. Pertaining to corruption, i can assure you he is not that corrupt as compared to those running our province right now.

I have to agree with biliran lass that prospective candidates should present their political platforms before an honest-to-goodness decision can be made. But, the way I see it, the objective of the BI staff by doing the survey here is just to get the ideas (and reactions) of netizens and BI bloggers on a possible two-way race for governorship. If I’m getting it right, this survey does not make a pretense to be statistically significant in its sampling or to be scientific in its methods. So, let’s give it a rest and just post our comments away.

Having said that, allow me to expound on biliran lass’ comments. While you are right in pointing out that politicians need to present their platforms, even if they actually do, there is just no active political party and citizenry particularly in Biliran Province that would hold these candidates to their platforms and election promises.

Take the case of Glenn Chong. He ran on a platform of “new politics” and good governance. Where is he three years into his term? Is he far different from the Espinas? Did he, as a matter of fact, bring new politics and good governance into Biliran? Is he any different? These are questions that his voters and supporters should bravely ask themselves (and that includes me).

Glenn Chong’s acts are known. We know he’s built roads. We know he stood in the Naval gym to denounce the prolend project. We know he has school buses. But, we also know that he supported Con Ass. He kowtowed to the GMA administration. His jumping the boat to join the administration party (a sinking boat, if I may add) is one fool proof fact. We know he berated AVSECOM personnel at the DZR Airport.

This is getting long. What I’m simply saying is that since Glenn Chong started us on this path of new politics and good governance, then, that is the bar that we should uphold and that we should subject present and would-be politicians. We start with Glenn Chong himself and then down the line.

HEY CORRUPT: I heard this issue several times but no one bothers to answer this…. I also paid P2.00 kung mutabok ko niari niadtong naguba ang bridge pero dili ako kabalo nga kang Mayor Chan kana…. He also served as VIce Governor under the noses of the Espinas..

NEW POLITICS and GOOD GOVERNANCE were the theme of your campaign speeches and political platform. While liberating the Biliranons from the Espinas is an important component, it never occurred to me while listening to you back then that the fight for Biliran’s liberation rests entirely on this. And it certainly never sounded back then that this mission of liberation was yours alone. I thought it was much yours as it is your supporters, volunteers and voters.

Clearly, the Espinas’ political stranglehold of the Province did not happen overnight. Without the resources of the political dynasties of old (such as vast lands and multitudes of tenants), Gerry Espina Sr was able to build a political dynasty in just less than a decade. This became possible because of the tacit approval and agreement of the local leadership in the different municipalities. In addition, the socio-economic and political situation of the Province (and even that of the country) was fertile ground on which patronage and transactional politics (where political dynasties is one of its manifest expressions) could flourish.

The Espinas’ rise to power, therefore, cannot be addressed in isolation – removed from the context and situation of the Province of Biliran. If you are only against them but not against the very systems, processes and order that favor political dynasties to rise, your fight, Congressman, becomes a mere personal vendetta. Correct me if I’m wrong but this is exactly the impression that I’m getting from you. How else would I consider your policy of blindly opposing the Governor?. For example, why can’t you and the Governor work for the Provincial Hospital? I’ve been there recently and it’s really a pitiful place! Ones the Espinas are gone, what then? You just make it possible for another political family with the same lust for greed and power to build their own a la Espina. And that beneficiary could very well be possibly be you, Congressman (what with your father supposedly in the running).

Allow me to be straightforward, Congressman. Recent events have sparked me to ask questions about your real intentions and re-assess my support and my dream for Biliran that seemed to hue closely with yours during the elections. So, for the benefit of myself and others who are themselves asking, please shed light on the following:

– what have you done as a congressman to sponsor an enabling law that would put reality to the constitutional mandate banning political dynasties?

– why did you support the constituent assembly move in the House? Why did you vote against GMA’s impeachment?

– why did you bolt out of the Liberal Party to join the administration party?

– what have you been doing to create a party or force of your own in the province based on your platform of new politics and good governance?

– how many consultations/forums/educational discussions have you conducted in Biliran over important policies and social issues? Relatedly, what portion of your monthly budget slated for public fora and consultations have you spent for the matter?
