The conversion of the municipal road in the island municipality of Maripipi into a national road recently through the enactment of R.A. 10018 AN ACT CONVERTING THE MARIPIPI ISLAND CIRCUMFERENTIAL ROAD IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF MARIPIPI, IN THE PROVINCE OF BILIRAN INTO A NATIONAL ROAD authored by Congressman Glenn A. Chong of the lone congressional district of Biliran opens a myriad of hope, caters a plenty of opportunities and provides a bounty of development to one of the eight municipalities comprising the province of Biliran.
Road is a vital infrastructure component which is an important link in the progress and development of a particular local government unit like that of Maripipi classified as a fifth class municipality. The roads of Maripipi that connected the 15 barangays though not all were paved yet and could not accommodate two bigger built four-wheeled vehicles at one time before the enactment of the law, already provided mobility and easy access for the transportation needs of its people known for their primitive trade of pottery making which they handed down from one generation up to the present. This could also be a big help in transporting other major agricultural products to trading center outside the island such as copra and fishery products.
The improvements undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) -Biliran Engineering District led by the result-oriented and forward-looking Engr. Virginia C. Sarabusing, offers not only a more convenient and safe travel to the riding public in the municipality but the newly completed paved and a more wide circumferential road which is now classified and is now part of the country‘s national road also gives an enjoyable ride to local and foreign tourists who wanted to explore the island town`s tourist destinations like the Napo Beach Resort, Viga Spring Water, the Boracay-like Sambawan beach and many other pristine natural beauty created by God waiting to be discovered found in the island.
Nestled as a strategic point of future vibrant and promising trading activities between Biliran province and other trading partners located in Samar areas like in Catbalogan and expanding vertically upward to Masbate and in some business hub in Luzon with the establishment of a Roll-on,Roll-off (RoRo) port complimented with the conversion of the town`s arterial road into a national road with accompanying present road improvements, only sends a strong signal that the town`s progress and development is already in the bag among the amiable and peace-loving Maripipinhons under the leadership of the first-termer local chief executive, Mayor Noel Albelda who is a doctor by profession..
Every step taken along the way by each and every Maripipinhons in their newly converted road is a giant step towards finding the widening horizon for development that may soon set forth and can no longer be prevented to take place in the only island municipality which is part of the island province of Biliran.
Marching in the beat of progress and development while strolling along the newly completed paved national highway with hands holding tightly with each stakeholder in Maripipi, there`s no turning back but to buckle down to work and map out the best plans and to lay down the brightest future for all the people in Maripipi at present and the future generations of Maripipinhons to come.
