MANILA, Philippines – Eight Liberal Party congressmen have jumped over to the administration’s Lakas-Kampi-CMD coalition, citing the lack of unity within the LP.

On Friday, the eight lawmakers took their oath to their new party.

They were Representatives Mary Mitzi Cajayon of Caloocan City, Magtanggol Gunigundo of Valenzuela, Jose Antonio Roxas of Pasay City, Alvin Sandoval of Malabon-Navotas, Glenn Chong of Biliran, Solomon Chungalao of Ifugao, Reynaldo Uy of Western Samar, and, Rodolfo Valencia of Oriental Mindoro.

Gunigundo said two more lawmakers, Laguna Representative Evita Arago and Northern Samar Representative Paul Daza, were supposed to join them at the oath-taking but were unable to come. Daza was at the national budget hearing, while Arago was attending to her flooded district.

The lawmakers cited the disunity within the LP and the credentials of Lakas-Kampi standard-bearer Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro as the factors that convinced them to join the new party.

Except for Chong, the eight are part of the LP faction allied with Environment Secretary Lito Atienza and which is supportive of President Macapagal-Arroyo. The other faction is led by former Sen. Franklin Drilon who is supporting the candidacy for president of Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

But LP spokesman and Quezon Representative Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada III dismissed the defections, saying that it was not a big deal, because of the eight lawmakers only Chong was still a party member.

Tañada said the rest filed their certificates of candidacy in 2007 as Lakas candidates, except for Roxas, who ran under the United Opposition.

“Their oath-taking with Lakas has no bearing with the Liberal Party. In this equation, we just lost one representative. We would like to wish Representative Chong all the best,” he said.

Tañada also said local politics was a factor in the lawmakers’ decision, and this showed the weakness of the country’s political system.

Cajayon, speaking at the Kapihan sa Sulo forum, said the group’s decision was reached after the Liberal Party failed to unite. There was also a feeling that the Atienza faction was not welcome in the party, she said.

Unya, kinsa maning imong gi-ingon nga taga-Liberal Party nga mo-blacklist kang Glenn, si Raffy Salazar ug si Joe Gonzales, ang mga tawo pod ni Gerry Espina Sr? ha ha ha he he he hi hi hi.

Sakit akong tiyan ug katawa. Sigi lang hinoon ug pasa ug resolusyon sa probinsiya ug sa SB sa Naval pagpinangutang… ha ha he he he he.

Sakit akong tiyan ug katawa. Bisan gitando-tandoan lang.. ha ha ha he he he hi hi hi.

  4. Unsa? Ipahunong ni Roger ang School Bus ug modaug siya pagkakongressman? haha ha he he he. Ang angay nga hunongon mao ANG PAGPINANGUTANG!!! ha ha ha he he he hi hi hi.

Unsa ma ni mo average ug P23,333,333.00 kada tuig dugang sa halos P300 Milyones nga IRA unya way agi? ha ha ha he he he hi hi hi.

Karon ug modaug si Gerryboy, basin doblehon kay makigdungan baya ni didto sa Manila sa mga dagko ug mga multi milyonaryong mga sugarol… ha ha ha he he he. Kung mo-asta ug mopohal, buhay multi milyonaryo. Ang katawanan, maguwang pa sa unemployed kay allowance ra man ang madawat didto sa Pagcor isip Commissioner kuno… haha ha he he he hi hi hi. Kung simbako madisgrasyang modaug, basin mabisi ug himo ug mga resolusyon para mangutang na pod ug doble.. ha ha ha he he he. Way napasa sa kongreso basin daghang mapasang resolusyon sa pag-pangutang… ha ha ha he he he hi hi hi.

Dili gani maoy mo-approve sa utang ni Gerry, Roger, Roselyn ug Rudy… ha ha ha he he he hi hi hi.

5. To all Biliranons
    All Bloggers
    All Freedom Fighters
    All Biliranons abroad
    All Biliranons Youth

Once again, we have come to the second very crucial stage in our battle to save Biliran from the clutches of the Espina family and their cohorts, who have continued to put their own personal interests over and above the interests and betterment of Biliran.

The 2007 battle was significant as it allowed us to choose Rep Glenn Chong as the Representative of the Lone District of Biliran, Mayor Susan Parilla, Mayor of Naval, Mayor Noel M Albelda of Maripipi, Mayor Floresca Delante of Caibiran and a small number of members of the Sangguniang Bayan of their respective municipalities. It was a hard won battle as we have succeeded to install people who started to introduce changes that will deliver long term benefits for Biliran.

Unfortunately, our gains in 2007 were only the beginning of our struggle to rebuild Biliran. The gains would have been greater and the momentum of change faster if we have given Rep Glenn Chong a solid team to work with. In his first 3 years of office, Rep Glenn Chong and his team have proven, without a doubt, that if you have good intentions in your heart, many things can be accomplished.

The main stumbling block is the continued arrogance of Gov Roger Espina to recognize the authority of Rep Chong and refusal to work with him. Instead, using his numbers in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Sangguniang Bayan under Bando Espina, He has embarked on massive unplanned spending spree using Biliran’s share of the IRA, local revenue generated by the province and most importantly debilitating loans from various sources that will see his successor buried in debts that will probably take 3 terms to repay. The sad thing is that all these are done devoid of public consultation, transparency, and accountability. As expected, the projects that were supposedly funded by the above revenues were either nonexistent, incomplete or of inferior quality.

Amidst this scenario, we need to take the second step. The second major step we have to take is to elect a solid team that offers a unified direction grounded on good governance, honesty, transparency and accountability. A unified direction, working within the parameters of a master plan and executed by a team, working together to achieve what has never been achieve in the last 15 years of Espina control. It is not enough that we have 1 or 2 or 3 well meaning leaders to do the job. The task is too big and difficult, that we cannot just saddle a few people with the responsibility. We need a working team of qualified people with the interests of Biliran in their hearts, not their own.

The Espina had the numbers in SP but they used it to get what they want to satisfy their personal interests. They control the SP and the SB’s of most municipalities to put up a blockade against projects and initiatives that Rep Chong would have preferred to work together with. The Espina family used their numbers to demonstrate their political might instead of using their numbers to work for the betterment of Biliran. They have offered Biliran to all major political parties who care to offer money in return for their support. They have prostituted government institutions by labelling them as pro-Espina or Anti-Espina thereby creating unwanted divisions which fuelled lack of cooperation to any projects initiated by Rep Glenn Chong.

We need a working team who shares the same vision, enthusiasm for change and the political will to accomplish it. Back in 2007, we fought a hard battle against a political dynasty that was prepared to do anything to keep their stronghold of Biliran. Yes, the issue of political dynasty was one of our battle cry. In 2010, nothing has changed; the Espina Dynasty is once again hell bent on re-imposing their family rule in Biliran. As I have mentioned in my posts on the thread “Political Dynasties” discussed on this site, the problem facing Biliran now is the return of five members of the Espina Dynasty. A political dynasty, which controlled Biliran for the last 15 years. Please take note that in spite of the significant win in 2007, the Espina Dynasty, in a sense, still controls Biliran as they have the numbers in SP and SBs.

You may ask, why do we need to field a son and father team? Isn’t that in a way creating another political dynasty? In one way, yes there is a possibility. But isn’t it easier to monitor two who has demonstrated in so short a time their genuine intention to bring in better benefits to Biliran than going through the whole wasted experience of 5 members of the Espina family for the last 15 years?

I say let us give Rep Glenn Chong, Charlie Chong and their team the benefit of the doubt. Let us build a stronger team that work together with a common goal. We have already experienced 15 years of Espina Dynasty’s abuses of power and excesses of their lifestyles which they can hardly explain where they get the money from?

What I am proposing is for us to elect the whole team. Let us elect the team led by Rep Glenn Chong from Congressman down to SB members of each and every municipality. Let us give Glenn the means to accomplish projects that would should been completed in the last 15 years, without burying us in debilitating debts which our children and our children’s children will be saddled with the responsibility to pay.

Let us not just elect a Governor but rather all members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan from the same team. Let us not just elect a Mayor, but rather elect all members of the Sangguniang Bayan from the same team.

Let us vote straight and build the teams we need so badly. Let us cast our votes for the team whose allegiance is to Biliran and to the Biliranons. At this stage in Biliran’s history, The team offered by Rep Glenn Chong is the team we have to have. Let us do our share by helping build the team. Let us give Rep Glenn Chong a majority government. A minority government is saddled with obstructions as what we have experienced since 2007 to present.

Let us take the second crucial step. Let us help build a stronger team. Let us vote straight Rep Glenn Chong’s team. Let us take the second crucial step, remove the Espinas from Biliran’s political landscape and restore political balance. It is only in doing so, that we can encourage other well meaning and qualified Biliranons to come out and volunteer their services in the succeeding elections.

Let us join Glenn and Charlie Chong and their team in their philanthropic exercise to emancipate Biliranons from poverty and provide Biliranons with the opportunity to live decent, healthy and happy lives.

    Let us vote straight

  6. I am with you, sir, aquarius…for decency and real-professionalism.

I hope the majority of Biliranons will follow you for CHANCE of

hope and real progress in the province.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that the CHONGS and their

    lineup will win in Biliran.

    God bless us all.

  7. pinoyisip 7

Thank you for sharing the same opinion.

I believe that it is essential that we build a strong team, and that can only happen if we vote straight for Rep Glenn Chong’s team. We had the unfortunate experience of having Mayor Susan Parilla unable to implement her programs due to the blockage imposed by the Espina controlled SB. Similarly, Rep Chong had difficulty fast tracking his programs for each municipality as the Espina controlled SBs offer no cooperation at all. Governor Roger Espina
is the ultimate example of an arrrogant tyrant who thinks he is untouchable and not accountable to anyone.

Let us encourage Biliranons to vote straight.

  8. BILIRANONS VOTE NOT FOR YOUR SAKE BUT FOR THE NEXT GENERATION WHO WILL LIKEWISE SHARE THE BURDEN OF WHAT THE ESPINA DYNASTY HAVE DONE TO THE PROVINCE ECONOMIC BASKET.

VOTE FOR GLENN AND HIS TEAM MATES FOR A BETTER AND BRIGHT FUTURE OF OUR BELOVED ISLAND.

WAG IBOT MAPANGLINLANG NA PAMILYANG POLITKO
WAG MATAKOT SA MGA GOONS NA INILATAG UPANG KAYO AY TAKUTIN.

IPAKITA SA INYONG BOTO NA KAYO AY GISING AT HANDANG LUMABAN PARA SA KABUTIHAN NG LAHAT.

WAKE UP AND RISE UP BILIRAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Hi Migz, b4 u judge Noynoy try to see first his accomplishments when elected. Wla pa gani mkadaug c Noynoy imo man husgahan dayon. What is important he promised to combat corruption in our government system, that is what we needed now, a leader who can change our image as most corrupt nation. All of them are good, especially Gibo who is a lawyer and an intelligent person, but that is not what we need now. We choose a leader who desires to put an end to this unresolved corruption, it might be eradicated but at least be minimized because the ultimate victims of corruption are our less fortunate brethren. The marginalized poor in our society were not given the basic services due them because of corruption. I’m in a gov’t. service and I know what I am speaking. So try to open your mind and ask, what is our priority now. C GMA btaw blib kaau ko ana pgdagan niya presidente ky bright, economist pero unsa man iya nahimo in the middle of her term, fertilizer scam, NBN deal, midnight deal, etc.Gigamit jud ka bright? So is that what you need now?

I call on everyone to be vigilant until the last vote has been counted, tallied and declared official. Let us guard the precincts the same way we watch over it back in 2007. Let us monitor the movements of the members of the Espina Dynasty and their cohorts and report anything irregular by text or email or blog to this site and to ABS CBN’s Iboto mo Ipatrol mo Ako ang Simula.

Let us also say a prayer for all of us Biliranons and for our beloved Biliran.

    God Bless Biliran.

Noynoy votes against playing Garci tapes

At the fifth Congressional hearing on the Garci issue on June 30, 2005, three days after Arroyo’s televised “I am sorry” speech, Rep. Noynoy Aquino voted against playing the “Hello Garci” tapes.

“Tarlac Rep. Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III disappointed his colleagues in the House when he voted on Thursday night against the playing of the audio tape, although an overwhelming majority had voted yes,” reported the Philippine Daily Inquirer on July 2, 2005.

“(Aquino’s actions) are no less than political payback” because President Arroyo was the “most powerful and influential patron” of the Cojuangco-Aquinos in the Hacienda Luisita dispute, Anakpawis party-list Rep. Rafael Mariano said in the July 2, 2005 Inquirer report. Mariano said Arroyo knew what really happened during the Luisita massacre, and that was why Rep. Noynoy Aquino played “guardian angel” to Arroyo.

(Arroyo, whose candidacy in the 2004 presidential elections was supported by Noynoy and Kris Aquino, and who originally ascended to the presidency in 2001 after Cory Aquino and various groups led the campaign to oust President Joseph Estrada from office in EDSA 2, was suspected of aiding the Cojuangco-Aquinos during the November 2004 strike in Hacienda Luisita because of the involvement of the military in the dispersal and the Assumption of Jurisdiction that was declared by the Department of Labor.)

Unfazed by the criticism, both Noynoy and Cory Aquino continued to stand by Arroyo.

PHILIPPINES – Aquino denies birth control backdown
    Published Date: February 1, 2010
MANILA (UCAN) — A spokesman for Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III denied he had caved in to Church pressure over support for the controversial Reproductive Health Bill.
“Senator Noynoy Aquino has not changed his stand on the RH bill,” Frederick Forbes told UCA News Feb. 1.
“There are certain provisions of the RH Bill he can not support, but on the whole he is behind the bill,” the press officer says. He said Aquino has held that stand and “we never changed our position.”
Newsbreak Online reports that Aquino softened his stand on the Reproductive Health and Population Development bill during the ABS-CBN News Channel’s Presidential Youth Forum at De La Salle University (DLSU) on Friday.
Aquino, 50, said he wants Filipinos to be educated on the various methods of family planning and be free to choose which they prefer.

Noynoy flip flops on no new taxes pledge

Nagpapatrol, Ricky Carandang.

Sa imong pagtan-aw, kinsa man ang kasabot mo promise? dba he said b4 in an interview nga “i promise”? How come nga after sa pipila kaadlaw naingon ato ang iyang statement? Kaya kaha niya mag promise sa 6 katuig? or will he just end the corruption from his words?
