NAVAL, Biliran – Sabang Elementary School of Naval North District, Department of Education (DepEd), Division of Biliran, received educational television (ETV) package from ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc., in cooperation with the Department of Education (DepEd), Alpha Phi Omega (APO), and Kuwait Alumni Association 153.

The ETV package consisted of a 19” TV, DVD player, 31 volumes of DVD episodes of Sineskwela, Bayani, Hirayamanawari, Epolaple, and Mathtinik. The package also included compact discs of teacher training videos and episode guides.

Present during the turnover last February 18 at Sabang Elementary School were Ranulfo Docdocan from Tacloban Regional Network for ABS-CBN Foundation, Engr. Ernesto Salting, Adviser of APO Kuwait Alumni Association 153, Representative Rogelio Espina of the lone district of Biliran, Naval town Mayor Susan Parilla, Vice-Mayor Redentor Villordon, SB Member Gabino Velasquez IV, officials from DepEd, PTCA and the recipient barangay.

Also present were APO officers from Palawan, Surigao, Bukidnon, Zamboanga, Tacloban, APO-BISLA Alumni Association, APO KAPPA SIGMA Chapter, and APO EPSILON MU Chapter.

Sabang Elementary School in the municipality of Naval was chosen as the recipient school of the ETV package based on the recommendation of Dr. Carmelino Bernadas, Education Program Supervisor and T & D Unit Head of the Division of Biliran for its outstanding performance as elementary multi-grade school as shown in the National Achievement Test (NAT) results in the previous years until the present.

As a complete elementary school of 67 pupils, its school head and three teachers have manifested positive attitude towards their job of making all school children acquire the best knowledge, skills and attitude possible despite the limited resources available within their school environment, according to Bernadas.

In support to these efforts, SB Member Gavino Velasquez IV whose sibling, Judge Cielo Martinez is an active officer of APO, sponsored Resolution No. 123 requesting ABS-CBN and APO-BISLA to award the E-TV package to Sabang Elementary School.

Upon turnover, Docdocan reminded the recipient school to handle with care of the educational package so that it can be of help to more pupils in the future and extend its benefits to other less equipped schools.

On the part of the school, Ma. Cristy Lyn Meracap, school head of Sabang Elementary School, and Climaco Trinidad, the school’s PTCA president, assured its benefactors all their care for the educational materials to maximize its benefits to their less privileged pupils.
