NAVAL, Biliran – “Even as the celebration of February as Dental Health Month ends on February 28, 2011, the Philippine Dental Association (PDA), Biliran Dental Chapter will continue its program to maintain good and healthy teeth for all the Biliranons especially the school children”, thus said Dr. Glezel Kho PDA Biliran Dental Chapter President for 2011-2012.

Dubbed as “Keep Biliran Smiling”, the program aims to promote among school children in the elementary grades and high school students the importance of having good and healthy teeth and gums.

In an interview with Dr. Kho, she said their organization coordinated with the Department of Education, Division of Biliran in their school to school visitations provincewide to conduct toothbrush drills which focused on the proper way of brushing the teeth, flouridization and distribution of packages containing toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss and mouthwash to identified recipients in some schools in the province.

School children in two elementary schools in the Naval North District in Naval, Biliran namely Sto. Niño Elementary School and Capiñahan Elementary School were the first recipients of said packages courtesy of Colgate Palmolive Philippines under their program called “Kabayan Dental Health Watch”.

She added that in Capiñahan Elementary School, aside from the distribution of Colgate packages, PDA-Biliran Dental Chapter conducted lectures, film showings and demonstrations on how to use dental floss among school children in said school.

“For the year 2011, we will sustain our activity especially in the conduct of lectures on proper teeth care so that the objectives of “Keep Biliran Smiling” programwill be achieved”, she said further. (PIA-Biliran)
