Bombarded with issues about environmental conservation, the province of Biliran is again facing another mining exploration attempt.

During the Ayagan radio program in DYRN, Vice-Gov. Manuel Montejo announced that the Starrex Mining & Devt. Corp. applied an exploration permit two weeks ago, which will allow the Starrex Mining to undertake exploration activities for mineral resources in Biliran.

Some people claim that mining operations help boost the economy of the province, and the country even, but for most of the Biliranons, Gov. Gerry Boy Espina included, mining is one of the surest way to destroy the environment.

“I will not allow mining operations to happen here in Biliran,” Governor Espina said.

Before the Starrex Mining can freely operate their mining bustle in the province, they have to pass through the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the Bureau of Mines in Tacloban or Manila.

Governor Espina stressed that although he cannot stop the process of exploration to occur, he will ask his allies in Sangguniang Panlalawigan to disapprove the application permit.

  1. Of course I won’t allow any mining operations… let us learn na.. by the way, it’s ironic that the Governor is not allowing while we can remember two years ago that his brother, then governor, Rogelio Espina allowed mining in Pulang Yuta.. well, maybe they have learned na and I hope so (not just pakitang tao)

  2. I’M PRETTY SURE ONLY THOSE WHO BENEFIT THIS MINING WILL APPROVE NOT WITHSTANDING THE DISTRUCTION IT MAY CAUSE TO THE COASTAL SHORES AND THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE PROVINCE.

  3. DILI ANGAYAN HATAGAN UG KOMPIYANSA NING ILANG PAGDILI PAGTUGOT SA PAG MINA DINHI SA BILIRAN. TAKTIKA KINI NILA ARON MALISO ANG INYONG ATENSYON SA PAGAHIMOON NGA RECOUNT SA BALOTA.

  4. i do hope that our govt. officials here in biliran will study carefully that mining operation to be.

they have to ste aside thier personal interest for the sake of the people who lives here…

thanks gov G.B. if you’ll not allow mining here.!!!

  5. Look whose talking about stop Biliran mining !!!!
They were the ones who allowed some mining by night operators who have destroyed Caibiran mountain…
Lokohin ninyo sarili ninyo wag kami dahil di kami pinanganak kahapon. Kay lakas ng loob magmina tapos mananahimik pag bumaha sa lugar namin..
Ngayon hayan na naman tenitesting at sinasagad talaga ninyo ang pasensya ng mga taga biliran palibhasa mga dayo kayo dyan.

  6. It is only the Provincial government of Biliran that can approve or disapprove the permit for small scale mining operation.

Even if the Bureau of Mines will approve the said administrative requirement leading to the a small scale permit. Diligihapon na makaoperate ang Starrex kung dili gayud tugutan sa Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Beware to the plans of our beloved governor.
