Naval, Biliran – Policemen in Naval intercepted today illegal drugs locally known as shabu along the national highway before entering town proper.
P/Supt. Angel P. Bacatano, OIC Chief of Police of Naval Police Station together with other eight policemen intercepted in a checkpoint set up near the Petron Gasoline Station along the national highway two sachets of white crystalline substance believed to be shabu put in a white sando bag and were placed inside an alfa pack of chicken feeds marked Greenhills Supreme Fighter.
It was learned that an unknown tipster relayed information to a certain PO1 Jimmy Delima and where the same information was relayed to P/Supt Bacatano that illegal drugs were in transit in a van coming from Ormoc going to Naval.
The intercepted illegal drugs was found in D’ Franz passenger van with plate number HVK 114 coming from Ormoc City bound to Naval.
According to sources, the driver of the van named Ruben Delima Makabenta, 53 years old, married and a resident of Barangay Sawang, Poblacion, Leyte, Leyte, upon questioning said he did not know anything about it.
However, police authority in Naval considered the driver as suspect since nobody claimed the illegal drugs found in his vehicle and was brought to the headquarters of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Tacloban City for further investigation.
The intercepted two sachets of illegal drugs known as shabu were also brought to the same office in Tacloban City for proper disposition.
The apprehension made by the policemen in Naval was in accordance with Article 2, Section 5 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Act of 2002.
