NAVAL Biliran – Governor Gerry Boy Espina lauded the 7th Day Adventist group of doctors and nurses for conducting a major surgical mission at the Biliran Provincial Hospital from April 11 to 16.

The governor thanked the group for their dedication towards pro bono work and their passion to help the Biliranons avail of free operations and medicines.

“Napaka laking tulong ang surgical mission na ito sa ating mga kapwa Biliranon dahil hindi lang sila makaka-save sa malaking gastusin ng pagpapa-opera, ang mga doctor na mismo ang pumunta ditto upang isagawa ang operasyon kaya mas marami ang matutulungan,” Governor Espina said.

(“The surgical mission is a big help to fellow Biliranons not only in terms of the big savings on the cost of operation, but because the surgeons themselves come to Biliran, thus more people are able to avail of the services.” Governor Espina said.)

This year’s surgical mission is the 4th conducted by the group from the Manila Adventist Medical Center, Mr. Jun Oliva of AGIO Biliran, informed.

Dr. Archie Lamadrid headed the team of 28 surgeons and nurses, who treated cleft lips, parotid tumors, sub-mandibular tumors, thyroidectomies, breast tumors, gall bladder stones, colon tumors, hysterectomy, ovarian cysts, hernias, hydrocoeles, scar contractures, fistula, hemorrhoidectomy, skin cancers, and gall bladder operations by laparoscopic technique.

Biliran province is currently in the process of improving its health system delivery. When completed, the Biliran Provincial Hospital is touted to be the best provincial hospital in the region, Mr. Oliva disclosed.
