NAVAL, Biliran – Navalenos who would like to gain access to the internet will no longer have to go to the internet café and spend few pesos for its use because the local government unit (LGU) of Naval has added two more wi-fi connections installed at the balcony of the municipal hall on top of its original connection for use in its different departments to share free access within the vicinity.

This was bared by Mayor Susan Parilla in an interview with PIA-Biliran.

She informed that the installation of free wi-fi access which is serviced by Globe Telecommunications, Incorporated costs very minimal including its monthly rental.

Anybody can just bring his computer notebook or laptop and sit down in any of the benches in the beautifully landscaped municipal grounds of Naval or find a place somewhere within the vicinity and start internet surfing.

She added that wi-fi access radiates some 50 meters away from where the equipment are installed at the balcony of the municipal building.

Furthermore, Mayor Parilla said that she herself together with some officials of LGU-Naval made an ocular inspection and explored around to check if the 50-meter radius is really working with wi-fi access and the result was positive.

Wi-fi access within the vicinity of the Naval Municipal grounds, mayor Parilla said, was made operational in the first week of April, this year.

In order to protect the internet surfers utilizing the area from elements of the weather, Mayor Parilla plans to put up three or four open kiosks. Estimates of labor and materials for the construction of the structures have already been done and she hopes to have the construction started by the last week of April, 2011.

“I will not allow loud music within the area because that will disturb the concentration of internet surfers who may wish silence while doing their work,” she said further.

She likewise said that drinking liquor while at the municipal grounds for the free wi-fi access is strictly prohibited adding that this might be the cause of trouble.

Barangay tanods will be tapped to maintain peace and order in the area while the internet surfers are around.

“Wi-fi access will be from six o’clock in the morning until 12:00 midnight so that internet surfers can get enough sleep for the next day’s work. (FEJ/PIA-Biliran)
