NAVAL, Biliran -– Naval State University (NSU) is all set to host the five-day International Conference-Sympoisum on Research and Development Trends for Global Competitiveness which starts tomorrow, Tuesday, July 12 until Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the NSU compound.

This was revealed by Dr. Edita S. Genson, NSU President, in an interview with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Biliran Provincial Information Center.

She said, they will be expecting some 300 delegates to include the resource persons, consultants and speakers to this international activity.

However, she informed, that the participants could go beyond 300 because as of today, still many have called up her office to signify their intention to attend the conference.

For the delegates coming from the Philippines, she said, majority of them come from the Department of Education (DepEd).

One of the areas to be tackled during the conference, she said, is the K+12 curriculum.

It was learned that DepEd hopes to implement K+12 curriculum in the country by next school year in June, 2012.

She informed that consultants of the K+12 curriculum from the University of Minnesota in the United States of America will be coming over to share their knowledge of the said curriculum.

Experts and resource persons on research which is the major area to be discussed, from other parts of the world will be coming over also to share their expertise in this field of study.

The international conference-symposium on research and development trends for global competitiveness was supposed to be held in 2010 yet, however, because of some adjustments in the preparations, it was finally set this year with NSU as the host.

“Our hosting of the activity brings an advantage to NSU because the university which is at present in Level 3 will be elevated to Level 4 once the researches we have conducted and developed will be published in international publications,” she said.

“Many have also signified their participation to the international conference because the participants will earn 10 points for their attendance,” she added.

The opening ceremonies to welcome the delegates will start at 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon tomorrow, Tuesday, July 12 after the opening of NSU’s mini museum at the university compound.

Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho “Icot” Petilla will grace the opening ceremonies as guest speaker.

To lead in welcoming the delegates and visitors are Congressman Rogelio Espina of the lone district of Biliran, Biliran Governor Gerardo Espina, Jr., Naval Mayor Susan Parilla, Dr. Edita Genson, other NSU and local officials. (opt/FEJ/PIA 8 Biliran)
