NAVAL, Biliran, August 20, (PIA) – The Philippine National Police (PNP), Biliran Provincial Office needs patrol boats for each of the municipalities in the province which they can use to monitor and go after illegal fishers in the seas within the territorial bounds of Biliran.
This was revealed by Police Senior Superintendent Alfredo Sabornido in a mobile phone interview with PIA.
He said the patrol boats will add to the efficiency of the work of the team organized in each of the eight municipalities in Biliran through the municipal police office to safeguard Biliran seas from illegal fishers.
He added that most of the fishermen doing illegal fishing in Biliran come from the neighboring provinces.
“We are strongly working for the eradication of illegal fishing in the province,” he said.
In an earlier interview during the Kapihan sa PIA over Radyo Natin-Naval, he informed that the PNP men in the province are likewise closely coordinating with their counterparts at the municipal level to campaign strongly against illegal gambling, illegal drugs and other forms of illegal activities in the province.
For the campaign against illegal logging, PNP-Biliran is coordinating closely with personnel from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) who are tasked to monitor the forest lands of Biliran province.
