TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Regional Office No. VIII through its Regional Director Edgardo M. Esperancilla is inviting interested and qualified applicants to the Science and Technology Undergraduate Scholarships for school year 2012-2013.

DOST-8 Center Manager Ramil T. Uy bared that the S&T scholarshipsare open to all high school students who belong to the top 5% of the graduating class and who wish to pursue priority fields of study in science, mathematics, or engineering.
The S&T Undergraduate Scholarships, according to Uy, has two program categories wherein the students may apply. The first category is the RA 7687 scholarship, otherwise known as the S&T Scholarship Act of 1994 wherein scholarship is granted to a poor, talented and deserving student who belongs to a family whose socio-economic status does not exceed the set of values of certain indicators a approved by the Advisory Committee on the S&T Scholarships.

The second program category is the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship which is aimed at helping college freshmen enter into and complete specific baccalaureate degree programs of choice.

Relative to this, DOST invites interested applicants to get their application forms at the DOST regional office or any Provincial Science and Technology Center. The forms may also be downloaded at http://www.science-scholarships.ph. The applicants are required to fill up the forms completely and submit the same together with the other necessary documents to the office from where it came from.

DOIST informed that the deadline for the filing of the applications forms is on October 21, 2011, while the examination for the scholarship is scheduled on 20 November 2011, which will be conducted in designated testing centers in the provinces region wide.
