NAVAL, Biliran – Residents of Barangay Catmon, in the municipality of Naval who were qualified to donate blood, actively participated in the blood letting on Tuesday, September 20 in said area.
The activity which was led by the Naval Municipal Health Office through Dr. Fernando Montejo, Municipal Health Officer (MHO) with the Philippine Information Agency and other partner agencies like the Philippine Army (PA) of the 806th Community Defense Center (CDC) based in Larrazabal, Naval, Biliran was held at the barangay hall of Brgy. Catmon.
During the blood letting, some 14 bags of fresh blood from volunteer donors were added to the blood bank of the Biliran Provincial Hospital. Of the 14 bags , 12 bags were donated by the volunteer blood donors from Brgy. Catmon while two bags were from the volunteer blood donors of the army from the 806 CDC who were also with Lt. Joseph Rebucas at the barangay to provide security to the activity.
Dr. Montejo examined the blood donors to check their qualifications to donate blood.
Ms. Esterlita dela Peña, nurse of the Naval Municipal Health Office (MHO)and Rowena Cator interviewed the donors using the three-page questionnaire before the actual blood extraction was conducted. Together with the medical personnel from the Naval MHO were the medical technologists from the Biliran Provincial Health Office in the persons of Anatolia Montesa and Doreen Morillo who were in-charge of extracting blood from the volunteer donors.
The weekly blood letting in the barangays of Naval which is conducted every Wednesday, according to Dr. Montejo will be deferred temporarily starting on Wednesday, September 21 until the end of the month upon request of the barangay officials because of their involvement in the activities in connection with the celebration of the 151st Pueblo Day of Naval on September 26 and the annual fiesta of the town on October 1.
Blood letting will resume in the month of October after the Naval fiesta celebration.
The blood letting scheduled in Naval is part of the campaign to donate more blood through the National Voluntary Blood Donation Program of the government which carries the theme “Dugo Mo, Buhay Ko”. (FEJ/PIA 8 Biliran)
