NAVAL, Biliran – As the entire country celebrates the month of February this year as civil registration month, the occasion is highlighted here in the province of Biliran with the conduct of free birth registration and mass weddings.
The month-long celebration is pursuant to Proclamation No. 682 issued on January 28, 1991 by then President Corazon C. Aquino declaring the whole month of February in every year as Civil Registration Month.
The civil registration month celebration in the country is centered on the theme: “Tamang Rehistro, Pananagutan ng Bawat Pilipino”.
According to Rose Marie V. Lumbre, Provincial Statistical Officer, National Statistics Office (NSO)-Biliran, the free birth registration and mass weddings are conducted in coordination with the local government units (LGUs) in the province of Biliran.
NSO and the eight municipal LGUs have already set the schedule for the conduct of the free birth registration and mass weddings this month.
Lumbre also advised interested individuals in the province who wanted to avail of the free birth registration and the mass weddings to visit their respective local civil registrar office for further information regarding the activity.
Symposium will also be conducted among high school students from February 2-15 in preparation for the provincial civil registration quiz that will be held on February 20 in Biliran province, Lumbre added.
She informed that the provincial champion will represent the province in the regional finals in February 27 in Tacloban City.
The forum, aside from preparing high school students for the provincial civil registration quiz, is also aimed to give information on the importance of civil registration as well as to recommend solutions to problems on civil registration that may be raised by the student, faculty and staff of the school.
