NAVAL, Biliran — With an empowered Biliran women in mind, Dr. Cecil Espina, president of the Provincial Council for Women’s Welfare, Inc. (PCWWI), is urging all government agencies based in Biliran to support Women’s Month celebration in March.
One of the supports Dr. Espina wanted to solicit is the hanging of streamers and tarpaulins bearing the name of the occasion and it’s theme in the vicinity of their offices on or before the kick-off activity on Friday, March 1, for the month-long celebration.
This year’s celebration is centered on the theme: “Women Weathering Climate Change: Governance and Accountability, Everyone’s Responsibility.”
Another support that every agency can provide to PCWWI and its women beneficiaries is the presence of their women representatives to the activities that PCWWI holds during the celebration.
In support to its thrust of empowering women in Biliran, the provincial government of Biliran through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) in cooperation with PCWWI, and Women for Rural Development-Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipino (WORD-KALIPI), a motorcade on March 1 is set as its opening activity. The two-day Women’s Congress is scheduled on March 21 and 22.
The Women’s Congress will be attended by around 2,664 women from the 132 barangays of the eight municipalities of the province of Biliran.
During women’s congress, the participants will attend plenary sessions, observe livelihood demonstrations, and attend skills trainings which they can use in helping augment their family income when they go back to their respective areas. (MLTupaz/PIA8 Biliran)
