NAVAL, Biliran – A native delicacy in Biliran province made modest sales in the recently concluded national food fair that paraded the best food processors and exhibitors in the entire country.
The national food fair or the Micro Small Medium Enterprise Development (MSMED) Week Food Fair 2012 was held in SM Megamall in Manila on July 12-15, 2012. The national food fair was participated by 231 MSMEs in the whole country.
According to Ronelo G. Jamin, Rural Micro Enterprise Promotion Program Officer (RUMEPP) in the provincial office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Biliran, sales generated by the special suman from Biliran reached up to P16,000 in just two days.
Jamin said that the province of Biliran was represented by the Wincofel Special Suman owned by Felimon S. Abecia, vice-president of the Naval Suman Makers Association (NASUMA) based in this town.
Wincofel Special Suman was chosen to represent Biliran province since they are the only food processor or exhibitor who has an official receipt which is an important requirement before one can officially participate, Jamin said.
He informed that Wincofel Special Suman has brought only 600 pieces to the national food fair in Manila including previous orders to be brought also to Manila.
However, he said that there were individuals who attended the national food fair who took interest in the special taste and the special packaging of the special suman made by Wincofel.
Other co-exhibitors and processors from other regions in the country have also took interest with the special suman in Biliran province, Jamin said. (PIA Biliran)
