NAVAL, Biliran – The provincial government of Biliran headed by Governor Gerardo J. Espina, Jr. through the Provincial Rabies Prevention and Control Committee (PRPCC)has lined-up various activities in celebration of March as Rabies Awareness month.
Dr. Suzette Apura, Provincial Veterinarian of Biliran informed in a meeting which was attended by the members of the PRPCC at the Provincial Veterinary Office that a motorcade at 7:30 in the morning will be conducted on March 8, the kick-off day of the series of activities to highlight the celebration from the provincial capitol grounds to the municipality of Kawayan where a short program will be held at the multi-purpose hall.
Joining the motorcade are the officials and employees from the local government units (LGUs) of Biliran province, national government agencies (NGAs), barangay officials and other organizations.
Governor Espina and Congressman Rogelio Espina of the lone district of Biliran will deliver their messages to highlight the importance of the celebration.
Part of the program is the commitment signing of the local chief executives for their support by allocating funds for the effective campaign against rabies in their respective municipalities.
The barangay officials and teachers will likewise take part in the commitment signing for their support to the program.
After the short program, follows the free rabies vaccination and castration of dogs by personnel expert to do the work.
In line with the free rabies vaccination and castration of dogs that will be held at the Kawayan multi-purpose hall in the afternoon of March 8, all dog owners whose dogs have not been submitted for anti-rabies vaccination are advised to bring their pets to the venue where the vaccination will be conducted.
Last part is the giving of awards and citations to officials who contributed in making Biliran a Rabies-Free Province. (PIA 8 Biliran)
