EULOGIES. Grieving relatives, friends and colleagues visited the last night of wake of the late Gerry Espina, Sr. Family members and close friends, including former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos and House Speaker Sonny Belmonte delivered heartfelt eulogies to pay tribute to the former Congressman.

Former House Speaker Jose de Venecia also attended the necrological service as well as other friends of the bereaved family.

Political personalities and former colleagues paid their last respects to the late former Biliran Representative Gerry Espina, Sr., and expressed their condolences to the latter’s family. Foremost of whom is former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos who arrived on the first day of the wake at the Arlington Ascension Chapel in Quezon City.

The former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada also visited the wake with his son, San Juan Representative JV Ejercito, to sympathize with the widow and children of the departed.

House Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte, Jr., mourned the death of his former colleague in Congress, saying that the late Gerry was a good friend. The two were together in the opposition in the 11th Congress when Belmonte was a Minority Floor Leader.

Likewise condoling with the Espina family were Vice President Jejomar Binay, Senator Manny Villar, former Senate President Ernesto Maceda, former Senators Richard “Dick” Gordon and Rene Espina, Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson, and Leyte’s Second District Representative Sergio Apostol.

The 77-year-old Gerry Espina, Sr. succumbed to pneumonia last Wednesday night at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City.

His remains will be laid to rest on Tuesday, February 12 at the Loyola Memorial Park in Paranaque City. – BiliranIsland.com
