NAVAL, Biliran – The local government of Naval is currently distributing hybrid and certified seeds for rice farmers whose farms were damaged by Typhoon Yolanda that hit Eastern Visayas last November 8, 2013.

Nascencia Abad, Municipal Agriculture Officer of Naval disclosed that the distribution of certified and hybrid rice seeds is under the Rice Seed Rehabilitation program of the national government in coordination with other private organizations.

She informed that under the program, the municipality of Naval is given 496 bags of certified seeds and 180 bags of five-kilo per packing of hybrid rice seeds.

Since Naval has a total of 2,676 hectares of irrigated rice lands, qualified beneficiaries are farmers found in the masterlist provided and certified by barangay officials for having totally damaged ricefields.
Each farmer-beneficiary is given sack each of certified seed or one pack of hybrid seed regardless of the area of damaged ricefield.

Farmer-victims are not allowed to personally report to the Municipal Agriculture Office of their farm damage, instead, they are advised to report to their respective barangay officials the extent of their farm damages for verification to qualify entry to the list of beneficiaries for the Rice Seed Rehabilitation program, Abad said.
