NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) – “We need private investors to come in and help the power situation in this country” thus said Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Carlos Jericho L. Petilla in his message during the presentation of the Biliran Geothermal Project.

Petilla was here in Biliran province, Monday, April 7, for the presentation of the Biliran Geothermal Project held at the Biliran Garden Resort and the ocular site visit of the geothermal project in Barangay Cabibihan in Caibiran town this province.

Secretary Petilla acknowledged the Biliran Geothermal Project as one of the biggest energy developments under the Aquino administration which is expected to be operational within two years.

The DOE chief informed the government will not make it difficult for the private sectors to come in to invest in energy development in the country.

The thrust of DOE is in the review service contracts and issuance of service contracts to “serious players” Petilla emphasized, referring to private investors who are willing to pour in their investments in the development of energy resources in the country.

Petilla said that one of the thrusts of DOE is in the development of renewable energy sources like solar and wind energy.

He mentioned the additional 450 megawatts supply of solar power by March 2015 and 200 megawatts from wind energy sources and another 400 megawatts from other sources which will help address the increasing demand of power supply in the country.

However, Petilla also said that the energy department is contemplating on power sales agreement where he called on merchant plants to come in to fill-up the lack of power supply in the country.(PIA 8 Biliran)
