NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) –It’s another feather on its cap for the only electric cooperative in Biliran province as recently it received three certificate of compliance (COC) awards from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

The Biliran Electric Cooperative (BILECO), Incorporated represented by Engr. Gerardo N. Oledan, OIC General Manager and Albert Pitao, president of BILECO Employees Union, received the awards which were personally handed by no less than DOLE Secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz in an awarding ceremony held at the DOLE Training Center in Tacloban City on October 30, 2015, based on a report provided by BILECO to the Philippine Information Agency (PIIA)-Biliran Provincial Information Center.

The report stated that three COC awards conferred to BILECO by DOLE were on General Labor Standards (GLS), Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and Labor Relations.

BILECO is the first and only electric cooperative in the Eastern Visayas region conferred by DOLE with the three COC awards, the report further stated.

The COC award is all about achieving voluntary compliance with labor laws and standards aimed at providing conducive workplace and promoting the over-all welfare of the employees, the report added.

“We need to be conscious and faithful in our responsibilities in complying labor laws and regulations to sustain our inclusion in the list of compliant establishments in the region”, Oledan emphasized in his report.

He hopes the recognition received will serve as gateway in promoting BILECO’s best practices among industries.

For his part, the BILECO Employees Union president said in the report that the award is the successful result of the collaborative efforts between the management and employees which is primarily focused on enhancing employer-employee relationship.

Further, Pitao vowed to remain steadfast in implementing all programs geared towards creating conducive work environment and producing competitive and productive workforce.
BILECO is exempted from the annual joint assessment by DOLE within two years provided it will continue complying the labor standards set, based on the three awards, the report further stated.
BILECO is one of the more than 500 entities in Region 8 that are conferred with the COC award with still 300 more entities to be given the COC award before the end of 2015, the report added. # (fj/PIA 8 Biliran)
