NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) – The year 2016 brings good news to persons with diabetes, hypertension and mental illness as the health department extends free medical check-up and gives free medicines right at the doorstep in the community – the Rural Health Unit (RHU).
“The programs on non-communicable diseases and that of mental health of the Department of Health (DOH) are continuing programs,” Vanessa Veloso Ramirez, health education and promotions officer (HEPO) of the Biliran Provincial Health Office (BPHO), said during her guesting at the Kapihan at Pulong-Pulong ng Bayan, a regular radio program hosted by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Biliran Provincial Information Center held every Thursday from 11am until 12 noon at Radyo Natin-Naval.
Ramirez said that persons with diabetes, hypertension and mental illness may visit the RHUs in the eight towns in Biliran province including the Biliran Provincial Hospital for free medical services and medicines.
“This is already a big help especially to the indigent patients considering the high cost of medicines nowadays,” the young Biliran HEPO further said.
Ramirez advised persons with diabetes and hypertension to visit the RHUs in their town and register in the list of patients and be members of the diabetes and hypertensive club to ne able to avail of the free medical services and medicines.
She likewise advised also the guardian and relative of persons suffering from various mental illnesses to visit the RHU for purposes of registration and availment of the free medical services and medicines.
“The RHU doctor is trained by the DOH to conduct medical services to person with diabetes, hypertension and mental illness,” Ramirez said.
She, the medicines available at the RHU for person with diabetes is Metformin and Losartan, Amlodipine and Metoprolol for hypertension. # (PIA 8 Biliran)
