NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) – The clamor of Typhoon Yolanda victims who qualified for housing assistance, either totally or partially damaged, but did not receive the previous release of cash assistance under the Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) was addressed as the social welfare department released recently some P1B fund for the purpose.
It was learned that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) last year, released the amount for ESA cash assistance in the amount of P30, 000 for totally damaged and P10, 000 for partially damaged houses to identified qualified individuals in Tyhoon Yolanda affected areas in the country.
“The latest release of ESA cash assistance here in Eastern Visayas region has addressed the gaps of the government cash assistance program to identified qualified individuals who have yet to receive the cash assistance,” said Honeylou Mora, project development officer II of the regional office of DSWD in Eastern Visayas.
Mora facilitated the distribution of ESA cash assistance to identified qualified ESA recipients in in the municipalities of Almeria, Biliran, Cabucgayan, Caibiran,Culaba and Naval, all of Biliran province.
The DSWD official added that a total amout of P1, 236,797, 162 was released in the entire Eastern Visayas region in the recent release of ESA cash assistance.
“This represents some 99, 865 ESA recipients here in Eastern Visayas covering some identified 38 local government units (LGUs) out of the identified 63 LGUs qualified under the ESA”, she further said in an interview at the old Naval Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall recently..
In the province of Biliran, the identified qualified residents in the municipalities of Almeria, Biliran, Cabucgayan, Caibiran, Culaba and Naval were included in the recent release of the ESA cash assistance. (FJ/rvictoria/PIA 8 Biliran)
