NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) – Mark your calendar, witness, and participate in the first ever holding of a countdown in the history of fiesta celebrations of Naval town come June 30.
“The 100 Days Countdown to Naval Fiesta 2017 is one of the highlights in this year’s town fiesta celebration,” said Dr. Victor C. Canezo, OIC-University President of Naval State University (NSU), who is also the executive chairman of the 2017 Naval Town Fiesta Executive Committee, in a radio interview.
The 100 days countdown will start with a Holy Mass at 5:00 o’clock in the afternoon at the Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish Cathedral.
One of the highlights of the 100 days countdown activity is the unveiling of the 100 days countdown marker where a life-size image of the Naval patroness, the Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, is placed inside the structure of the countdown marker, Canezo said.
The countdown marker is located at the corner of the Naval Gymnasium facing the Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish Cathedral at Corner Castin and Padre Inocentes Garcia Streets this town.
The unveiling of the 100 days countdown marker will be marked by separate presentations of Halad sa Birhen festival dancers near the corner of the Naval Gymnasium where the marker is located and at the Naval town hall grounds.
Fireworks display will also be seen during the unveiling ceremony aside from the performances of Oliver Alcano, 1st runner-up of Biliran Got Talent, NSU Avant Tigers DLC, and the much-awaited performance of guest artist Prince Stefan.
The presentation of candidates to the Queen of Naval 2017 will also be held during the unveiling ceremony.
Canezo promised that the grand activity of the 100 days countdown will be followed by different equally grand activities leading to the fiesta day on October 6-7, 2017.
“Known festivals like the Sinulog of Cebu, Pintados of Tacloban,and many other known festivals outside the region and from other places in the country are invited to perform in an open Halad sa Birhen festival competition with a prize of P300,000 for the grand champion,” he added.
The 2017 Naval town fiesta executive chair also disclosed that five clusters composed of officials and employees of LGU-Naval including the officials of the 26 barangay captains, officials and employees of national government agencies, academic institutions, and non-government organizations in Naval will join in the fiesta activities like the grand parade with a contest of floats and Halad sa Birhen costumes and in the fluvial procession onboard their respective cluster’s fully decorated boats.
“This year’s Naval town fiesta has various unique activities that will surely captivate and mesmerize the attention of the visitors and guests and will entice balikbayans abroad to come home and join in the fiesta celebration,” Canezo further said.# (FJ/rvictoria/PIA-Biliran)
