NAVAL, Biliran – Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez is the first ever Speaker of the House of Representatives to have visited Biliran Province.
Alvarez made the historic visit two months after the province was greatly devastated by Typhoon Urduja, taking away 56 casualties and damage to both agriculture and infrastructures.
Biliran’s top local leaders, Cong. Rogelio J. Espina and Gov. Gerardo J. Espina, Jr. welcomed the House Speaker.
Alvarez visited one of the damaged bridges in the province, partcularly in Brgy. Caraycaray and distributed relief goods to the victims of the typhoon.
In a presscon, Alvarez pointed out ‘an assurance of help from the Congress in terms of rehabilitation and other programs intended to the victims of the typhoon’.
“Way laing magtinabangay kundi kita ra … Kami sa House [of Representatives] andam mutabang alang kaninyo,” Alvarez said.
“No one else will help each other but us… We at the House [of Representatives] are ready to help you,” Alvarez said.
On the other hand, Speaker Alvarez also rallied the federalism among local leaders present.
Alvarez is known to be a staunch supporter of the Duterte’s administration in changing the present government form to a federal one.
