NAVAL, Biliran, June 7 – A motor banca that was half submerged off the coast of Naval town was rescued by personnel of Philippine Coast Guard and Naval Rescue Unit (NAVRU) on Wednesday afternoon of June 6.
Based on the after rescue operation report of PCG-Naval sub-station, Marlon Arqiuza, a pesonnel of PCG- Naval sub-station saw the half submerged motor banca floating 30 meters away from the shoreline of Barangay Smo. Rosario in Naval, Biliran while he was conducting routine inspection at Naval port.
PCG-Naval sub-station immediately coordinated with the NAVRU and proceeded to the location of the half submerged motor banca to conduct the rescue operation.
Rescued where two the two passengers on board namely: Rain Bautista, 26 years old and Reynaldo Ramoneda, 69 years old, residents of Barangay Caneja in Calubian, Leyte.
According to William Guinto, boat captain of the half submerged motor banca, they departed Barangay Caneja at around 3pm enroute to Barangay Smo. Rosario and while they were transiting in between Calubian and Naval towns, they were battered by strong winds and big waves.
While they were at about 100 meters from the shoreline of Smo. Rosario, seawater started coming into the banca causing it to submerge. They jumped into the sea and hold the out-trigger and was fortunately brought by the current near the shoreline of Naval.
The reacue team successfully rescued the two pasengers including the boat captain who first opted to remain in his boat and towed the boat near the shoreline where medical assistance were immediately provided by LGU- Naval.
The rescued passengers were brought to their relatives in Smo. Rosario.
Naval Mayor Gerard Roger Espina thru Atty. Raymundo Espia. municipal administrator, gave financial assistance to the victims. Local officials commended he quick response of PCG and NAVRU towards the incident.
