NAVAL, Biliran, Sept. 18 (PIA) — Local delicacies in Naval, this province, will be showcased in a contest to highlight the daylong celebration of the 159th Pueblo Day of the town on September 26, 2019.
Based on the project brief prepared by the Biliran Provincial Tourism and Information Office, the Kulinarya sa Barangay Demonstration Contest will showcase the talents and creativity of the Navaleños in the preparations of delicacies known to the place.
The contest is open to all interested Naval residents who are at least 18 years of age. This is organized by LGU-Naval with the assistance of the Provincial Government of Biliran through the Provincial Tourism Office and with the support of the 2019 Naval Fiesta Executive Committee.
One of the objectives of the contest is to elevate the consciousness and appreciation of the Navaleños and the Biliranons in general the delicacies of the town and how the preparations are done.
It also aims to further improve the quality of the products and presentation styles of the town’s delicacies through a competition among delicacy makers, and to heighten the interest of residents in exploring local delicacies and preserving its heritage.
The contest will also serve as a venue in promoting LGU-Naval, both as a tourist and culinary destination.
The preparations of the delicacies will be done inside a Bahay Kubo which will represent two clustered barangays for a total expected entries of 13 delicacies.
The delicacies to be prepared must be considered as native, of Filipino origin, and uses local /Filipino ingredients, historically and /or culturally significant to the barangay, or to which preparation is associated with the barangay or locality.
The criteria for judging are as follows: Taste – 35%, Creativity/Uniqueness – 30%, Presentation – 25%, and Food Preparation Techniques – 10%.
The first, second and third place winners will receive P10,000, P7,000, and P5,000, respectively, plus trophy. (LDL/RSV/PIA-8, Biliran)
