NAVAL, Biliran – The Biliran Bridge which is the main gateway that connects Biliran to Leyte and Samar Provinces is to undergo rehabilitation due to the damaged pavement on the bridge deck.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Biliran District Engineering Office (DEO) advised all heavy equipment/ haulers and vehicles to pass the bridge one at a time using only one lane of the bridge.

David Adongay Jr., District Engineer said that cargo trucks and haulers are also advised to limit their cargo capacity to protect the bridge from further deterioration.
According to Adongay, the normal average lifespan of concrete pavement for bridges is only up to 20 years. Completed and passable in 1976, the Biliran bridge has already stood for 44 years to date.

DPWH-Biliran DEO has already requested for funding to the DPWH Central Office for immediate rehabilitation of the said bridge.
