NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) — Latest data on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Biliran revealed that the population growth rate in the province has shrinked in 2020.
This was announced by Renavil V. Cueva, PSA Biliran chief, during the provincial news conference and data dissemination forum on the results of the 2020 CPH held at the BiPSU Hostel in Naval on August 4.
Cueva reported that the annual population growth rate of the province, based on various censuses, has shrinked to 0.93% in 2015-2020 compared to 1.13% in 2010-2015, and 1.43% in 2000-2010.
She said that as of May 1, 2020, the population of Biliran province is at 179,312, accounting for about 3.94% of the Eastern Visayas population and about 0.16% of the Philippine population.
The 2020 population of the province is higher by 7,700 from its 2015 population at 171,612; higher by 17,552 compared with its population of 161,760 in 2010; and 39,038 more than its population of 140,274 in 2000, Cueva said.
Among the eight municipalities, Naval had the biggest population at 58,187, followed by Caibiran – 24,167, Cabucgayan – 21,542, Kawayan – 20,455, Almeria – 17,954, Biliran – 17,662, Culaba – 12,972, while Maripipi recorded the smallest population count at 6,713, she said.
Cueva added that based on the annual population growth rate in 2020, Caibiran posted the highest at 1.49%, followed by Naval at 1.31%, Almeria at 1.22%, Culaba at 1.08%, Biliran at 0.95%, Cabucgayan at 0.75%, Kawayan at 0.17%, and Maripipi at -2.42%.
According to Cueva, the 10 most populous barangays in the province are: Calumpang in Naval at 7,063; Larrazabal, Naval – 5,153; P.I Garcia, Naval – 4,666; Caray-Caray, Naval – 4,467; Bunga, Cabucgayan – 4,400; Atipolo, Naval – 3,803; Victory, Caibiran – 3,729; Cabibihan, Caibiran – 3,277; Poblacion, Almeria – 3,223; and Sto. Niño, Naval – 3,023.
The 10 least populous barangays in the province are: Trabugan, Maripipi – 173; Tabunan North, Kawayan – 184; Burabod, Maripipi – 231; Banlas, Maripipi – 237; Habuhab, Culaba – 267; Danao, Maripipi – 302; Casibang, Maripipi – 316; Canduhao, Maripipi – 326; Ol-og, Maripipi – 336; and Salvacion, Culaba – 336.
