Cabucgayan, Biliran— A widower who was depressed after losing eyesight was found kneeling with a rope tied in his neck while the other end was tied to a window frame about 6:00 in the morning on Friday (Sept 3) in Brgy. Pawikan, Cabucgayan, Biliran.
Cabucgayan COP Police Lt. Teofilo Gervacio III identified the victim as Bienvinido Salentes, 74, widower and a resident of Brgy. Pawikan, Cabucgayan, Biliran.
Lt. Gervacio III said in an interview that an 11 yr. old grandson of the victim discovered the incident when he brought a cup of milk that morning and noticed that his grandfather was kneeling and hanged himself using a nylon rope more or less one meter long. The boy immediately ran outside the room of his grandfather crying and shouting for help until neighbors rushed to the house about what happened and why the boy was crying. The victim’s relative immediately called the police after learning of the incident.
Lt. Gervacio III said that upon arrival in the area the victim was already removed from hanging and already placed at his bed. He said that they immediately brought the victim’s cadaver to the Rural Health Unit here where he was declared dead by Dr. Julieta C. Tan with Hypoxia, hypoxia secondary self-inflicted/strangulation by hanging.
Further victim’s neighbor Antonia B. Casungay told police that it was the 3rd time he attempted to hang himself due to his depression for losing his eyesight that resulted in his blindness. – BiliranIsland.com
