NAVAL Biliran (BDEO)- To further improve the Development Communication (DevComm) Program of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in delivering prompt, accurate and reliable information, Public Information Officers of the DPWH-Biliran District Engineering Office (DEO) attended a two-day Quarterly Meeting and News Writing Workshop at DPWH-Eastern Samar District Engineering Office (ESDEO), Borongan City on October 13-14, 2022.
Since the pandemic, quarterly meeting has been made virtually via Zoom Meeting. However, with full support and cooperation from different Districts around the Region, the face to face 4th quarterly coordination meeting and news writing workshop has been made possible.
The workshop about news writing was steered by the guest speaker, Mr. Jonathan Merillo, Master Teacher II from the Department of Education Schools Division, Eastern Samar. He explained on the importance of Press Releases (PRs) and shared his knowledge on the techniques in writing PRs that truly matters.
Since this is a DevComm workshop, participants were given the opportunity to critique each other’s news writings through constructive criticism to further improve their news writing skills.
Mr. Merillo ended the lecture by a quotation from Keith Ferrazzi that says, “Power, today, comes from sharing information, not withholding it”. The workshop is indeed a refresher and serves as a reminder to everyone on the importance of the “Press Release that truly matters” and on how to be an effective writer.
DPWH-Biliran DEO PIOs were participated by Chelsea Quijano-Salloman, Lourence Ann J. Estanislao and Stephany B. Sarinas together with PIO-Designates and Staff from 14 DEOs of DPWH Region VIII. (laje/bdeo)
