NAVAL, Biliran (BDEO) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)- Biliran District Engineering Office (BDEO) targets the completion of the P47.8-M Calambis Flood Control by early of November, this year.
The said project under contract with Chucon Builders Corporation has now an accomplishment of 81.42%, from its start date on March 29, 2022.
This 866-linear meter structure is located along the river of Brgy. Victory in Caibiran town, traversing through the Calambis Bridge and the vibrant and vast agricultural lands in the area.
Caibiran’s river is a vital resource in the area, continuously supplying vast rice fields with much needed irrigation.
According to OIC-District Engineer Alfredo L. Bollido, the said river posts threat during rainy seasons as it overflows on adjacent lands and scours the riverbank, gradually widening and eating through nearby rice fields.
“The construction of flood control structure in this area is deemed important as agriculture is the primary produced commodity and source of livelihood of this town,” said DE Bollido.
The completion of the Calambis flood control structure is expected to provide the necessary protection for the river bank and the Calambis Bridge abutment as well as prevent overflowing of the river to adjacent rice fields.
