Naval, Biiran— A driver of a Toyota Sedan was declared Dead on Arrival at the Biliran Provincial Hospital after figuring a road mishap about 01:15 today Monday, Jan 16, along the National Highway in Sitio Puro Tugas, Brgy. Calumpang, of the capital town of Biliran.
Naval COP Police Major Chaberline Lidevese identified the victim as Rickey Caliao, 30. A resident of Sitio Cadama, Brgy Lucsoon here.
The police said that the victim was driving a Toyota Vios 1.3 J M/T Sedan, Super White color bearing Plate Number HAG-1935, registered and owned by the victim.
The police said they station received information from a concerned citizen about an alleged vehicular accident / self-accident that transpired in the said place but were informed that the victim was already brought by BFP EMS to Biliran Provincial Hospital for immediate medical treatment. The police upon receiving the information immediately responded to the area to check the veracity of said report.
While in the area the responding police was able to hear base on the account of two witness identified as Jerome Enguito, 23, student and Dexter Casas, 25, jobless, all residents of Sitio Puro Tugas, Brgy Calumpang, of this municipality of what transpired that time. The two witnesses told police that the Toyota Vios was travelling at the national highway coming from Naval proper direction heading towards the town of Caibiran, Biliran direction. However, upon arrival at the said place the vehicle who was running in fast pace suddenly swerved to the opposite side of the road shouldering and in the process accidentally hit/bump the high ground at the side of the road causing the said vehicle to tumble and crash down resulting for damages of the vehicle and injuries to the driver.
The victim was brought by a rescue group from the Bureau of Fire Protection to the said hospital but was declared DOA by the attending physician Dr. Arvin Ian C. Peñaflor.
Likewise, a follow-up investigation conducted by local police disclosed that prior to the incident the victim attended the fiesta at Brgy Tabunan, Almeria, Biliran and was drinking with his friends.
