NAVAL, Biliran (BDEO) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)- Biliran District Engineering Office’s (DEO) Motorists Assistance Teams thru “Lakbay Alalay” program are on standby at various locations in the province from April 5-10 to provide road assistance during this year’s lent season.

Three motorist assistance tents were installed in three strategic locations in the town of Naval stationed along Biliran-Naval Section, Riverside Caraycaray (in front of Crispy King), Naval- Almeria Road Section (in front of Naval Cathedral School), and along Naval-Caibiran Cross Country Road (NCCCR), Brgy. Calumpang (in front of DPWH office). The teams are operational from 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon.

DPWH-BDEO OIC- District Engineer (DE) Alfredo L. Bollido said that the Lakbay Alalay Program aims not only to give directions to motorists but also to assist traffic flows and any untoward eventualities such as road accidents.

Prior to the implementation of this program, contractors handling on-going projects in the province were directed to provide clear warning signs along project sites, especially along national roads. Likewise, signages are also installed along those roads leading to tourism sites to ensure safety of the travelling public.

“Due to the long holiday, we’re expecting more tourists to flock to our province, that is why our Motorists Assistance Team were deployed for situations like this”, said OIC-DE Bollido.

DPWH-Lakbay Alalay Program is an annual activity of the department that is implemented during Lenten season, “Undas”, Christmas season and other holidays when an influx of travelers are expected. (dpwh/bdeo)
