Biliran, Biliran – A shoplifter was arrested and charged for theft after he was caught by another customer hiding grocery items inside his jacket about 10:50 in the morning on Wednesday, May 3, inside the Bottles Up Variety Store located along Brgy. San Roque here.

Biliran COP Police Capt. Hilario P. Rambano III, identified the suspect as Jay Bernard Salidaga, 35, married, a native of Brgy. Bunacan San Isidro, Leyte and presently residing at Brgy. Larrazabal, Naval, Biliran.

The case stemmed from the complaint of Jessa Mine Bracamonte, 30, married, businesswoman and a resident of Brgy. San Roque here.

Case investigator Police Staff Sergeant Jershon P Gervacio in an interview disclosed that the activity was caught in flagrante by another customer identified as Antonio Delima Jr., 29, male, single and a resident of Brgy. Salog, Leyte, Leyte, who witnessed the suspect hiding the grocery items inside his jacket and after hiding this, got out of the store. He said that the suspect did this several times and every time he got a grocery item inside the store, he would bring this outside and place it inside a sack. But in his third shoplifting he was caught by the witness who reported the matter to the counter who also called the owner and the police resulting in the arrest of the suspect.

The recovered stolen goods were three pack of 1 kilo grams of Virginia Hotdog worth P855, two packs Oreo Biscuit worth P150, three small pack of Oreo Biscuit worth P24, two bottles Gatorade worth P70, one C2 bottle worth P20, six pcs. safeguard soaps worth P150, one pc twin pack Ariel Powder worth P16, one rim Jackpot Cigarette worth P1,086, one Omni bulb worth P100, one box Lion-Tiger Mosquito killer P20, one pack ¼ Chlorine worth P50, and fifteen pcs. Tawas worth P30, totaling to P2571.

The suspect admitted to police his activity but said that he was forced to do so because of hardship in life. But Sergeant Gervacio said that the suspect was a member of a shoplifting group operating in the Province of Biliran and he is set to inquire at the Biliran Provincial Police Office if the suspect was arrested in other municipalities in the province for the same offense.
