Kawayan, Biliran— Five fishermen were arrested by local police after they were caught conducting an illegal fishing about 8:45 in the morning on Tuesday, September 12, at the territorial seawater of Brgy. Mapuyo, of this municipality.
Police identified the five violators as Lino Galan y Locahin, 52, married, fisherman, Rammy Monsanto, 41, with live-in partner, fisherman Rodito Tapaya, 47, married, fisherman, Rosalito Beril, 36, married, fisherman and Bernie Vere, 32, with live-in partner, fisherman all residents of Brgy. Binongtoan, Culaba, Biliran.
Kawayan police said that they were conducting seaborne patrol operation which resulted in the interception of one fishing boat marked “Parekoy” while they were caught in the act of engaging in Illegal fishing activity using active fishing gear locally known as “hulbot-hulbot. Confiscated from their possession the fishing vessel with engine, fish net, scaring ring lines (tabog), ring with weight stone, and buoy with a total estimated value of Php 120,000.00. Also recovered where an estimated 4-5 kilos caught fish with an estimated price of P400.
Charges of violations of municipal fishing laws were immediately filed by the arresting police to the violators.
