NAVAL, Biliran (BDEO) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)- Biliran District Engineering Office recently completed the P50-M road upgrading project in Brgy. Poblacion in Almeria town.

Motorists entering the town proper of Almeria along Naval-Almeria road section are now experiencing a wider, safer and convenient travel.

The project’s major scope of work involves the construction of a four-lane roadway significantly higher from its original elevation with a length of 0.385-kilometer and a construction of retaining wall and cross drainages.

OIC-District Engineer Alfredo L. Bollido said that the previous road section elevation is susceptible to flooding during typhoons and heavy rains, thus the need for it to be upgraded/ raised-up from its original elevation. With the completion of the project, this road portion will still be accessible to the general public even during flooding on the adjacent areas of the national highway.

Meanwhile, OIC-DE Bollido revealed that the District Office has also proposed the widening of the Bagongbong Bridge in Almeria under FY 2024 to complement the newly upgraded/ widened road of the town. The completion of this project will increase the capacity of the existing bridge and improve the safety aspect of the said section. This has a great significance to the people of Biliran in terms of transport and commerce.
