NAVAL, Biliran (BDEO) –, The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)- Biliran District Engineering Office (DEO) is currently undertaking the construction of a new two-storey modern market facility in the town of Naval. The said project is constructed at Brgy. Smo. Rosario, Naval, Biliran with a total area of 5,700.72 sq. m.

OIC-District Engineer Irwin L. Antonio said that the project is implemented through the initiatives of Hon. Gerardo J. Espina Jr., Representative of the Lone District of Biliran together with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Naval, to complement the progressing economic activities of the town.

“Naval’s economy becomes stronger over the years, thus a need for a better and modern Naval Public Market to cater the needs of the Biliranons in terms of commerce,” OIC-DE Antonio said.

OIC-DE Antonio added that the completion of the said project will provide a positive gain to the economic growth, not just in the Municipality of Naval, being the capital town, but also to the entire Province of Biliran and the neighboring places across Naval. He further disclosed that the said market facility can accommodate a total of 90 rentable spaces, providing convenience for both vendors and consumers of the said town.

According to OIC-DE Antonio, Phase I of the said project under the district’s FY 2022 funding year was already completed. This project involves earthworks, reinforced concrete, and electrical and plumbing works with a total allocation of Php25-Million.

Meanwhile, Phase II of the said project involves masonry works and roofing with a total allocation of Php 30-million. As of April, 2024, this project is on-going with an accomplishment of 27.90%.

OIC-DE Antonio disclosed that the finishing works/ improvement of the said project is proposed to be completed under Biliran DEO’s FY 2026 funding year.
