Victor Del Rosario Jr., 27, more known as Jun here, is an incumbent councilor of Naval town. In an interview, he also expressed his disappointment over incumbent Cong. Glenn Chong, whom he said was propelled to a win by a population who saw him as a non-traditional politician. However, Chong has announced he would let his father Charlie run for governor, making him no other different from the Espinas.

This is why, he said, he wants to run for Congress because he wanted to give people an alternative choice. He admitted telling people he had wanted to run for Mayor of Naval, but thought that the congressional seat was a better challenge.

Del Rosario is a native of Almeria and the son of Marilyn Atok of Kawayan and Victor Sr. of Almeria. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from the Leyte School of Professionals in Tacloban City.

He once ran for vice mayor of Calubian in Leyet but lost. He then moved to work as executive secretary of former Naval mayor Gerry Espina Sr. Under the Espina group, he ran for council and won.

Del Rosario said that as a councilor, he was a performing one, and has the most number of resolutions and ordinances passed. He is also the provincial chair of the National Movement of Young Legislators.

It was also learned that the incumbent governor Roger Espina, who is on his last term, would be running for Congress on 2010. It would be his younger brother, former Congressman Gerry Boy Espina who is reportedly running for governor in his stead.

An Espina sister, currently provincial board member, would run for Mayor of Naval. It is not clear if the incumbent Mayor Susan Parilla would run for re-election, but political pundits say she is still unbeatable. By Josephine P.
