With more than a year to go before the May 2010 national and local elections, prospective local candidates are already sending feelers to the electorate of their intention to run.

-oOo-

These prospective local candidates use several medium of communications like the interpersonal, the tri-media (print, broadcast and television which is absent in the locality) and the more tech-savvy, the use of cell phone and the internet thru the local websites.

-oOo-

Naturally, incumbent officials who already signified their intention to run for the same or different elective posts in 2010 have the edge over an appointive government official and that of a private individual who wishes to engage in the political battle.

-oOo-

It cannot be denied that there are some incumbent elective officials who use government resources in the guise of public service just to gain political advantage. Public service should not be compromised for one’s political gain rather it must be for the greatest good to the greatest number always.

-oOo-

On the part of the voters of Biliran province, coming up with the best candidate or candidates for any elective position should be made objective by setting standards with corresponding points such as honesty, credibility and sincerity-30, capability, competence and ability-30, god-fearing, pro-people and pro-environment-30 and open-minded, creative and resourceful-10. Anyway, anyone can use his own yardstick and barometer in choosing the best candidate.

-oOo-

The electorate of Biliran province is getting matured politically little by little as manifested during the 2007 elections. Thanks to COMELEC-Biliran for leading the initiative to reform the voters’ political perspective through the agency’s campaign anchored on the theme: “Boto Ko, Ikararangal Ko”

-oOo-

Presently, COMELEC-Biliran is not alone in the crusade for a clean, honest, orderly and peaceful election. It has now the strong backing of the different evangelical churches, non-government organizations, people’s organizations and private individuals in the fight against guns, goons and gold which characterizes Biliran politics. The electorate should not be tempted by the glitter of gold, be afraid of the deadly shots of guns and be scared by the terrifying faces of goons.

-oOo-

Vigilance of the voting populace is of utmost importance in this time where great pretenders, would be-saviors and would be-champions of people’s cause and the chameleon-like and sweet talking politicians abound. One way to identify these kinds of politicians is to measure his/her promises during campaign period against his accomplishments and the benefits received from the programs and projects implemented.

-oOo-

This is just an initial discussion to a more fruitful and wholesome discussion in the future about the bits and pieces of the Biliran political landscape. Issues shall be taken objectively without bias in order to give Biliranons credible information that will aid in choosing the right or shall we say “less evil” candidate.

By: Vote Wisely BiliranIsland.com The political situation in Biliran province is getting more animated and full of excitement this year.
