There was a time in the 1990's when Netscape Navigator was the standard way of surfing the web. Then Bill Gates decided to muscle in. Microsoft started bundling its Internet Explorer with Windows, and - despite government attempts in the US and the EU to curb Microsoft's monopolistic practices - that was the end of Netscape. By 2002, apart from a few weirdos on little-known browsers like Opera or Safari , just about everyone was using Internet Explorer, and the blue "e" became as ubiquitous as the Windows logo.

Then, in 2005, the open source community hit back, with a new browser called Firefox. Free and fast, Firefox is based on the same Mozilla engine Netscape was built on, and it is in many respects far better than Internet Explorer. It's faster, allows you to open multiple tabs, and, being open source, a huge variety of plug-ins are available. Last but not least, the US Federal Government recommends Firefox due to security issues with Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

It gets even better. Now there is a new version of Firefox which comes with the nifty Google toolbar pre-installed! You can download it right now, for free.

It should download quickly and install with just a few clicks. You'll be good to go within minutes. Happy browsing!
