Espina urges Biliran folk to support Arroyo

NAVAL, Biliran — Gov. Rogelio "Roger" J. Espina has asked provincemates to give unequivocal support to President Arroyo, saying she remains to be the best leader who has brought the country towards development and progress.

He sounded this call amid calls by some quarters for the President to step down, in the wake of the Senate inquiry into the $ 329 million ZTE national broadband network (NBN) controversy.

Espina said the issue is being used by detractors of the administration to besmirch the credibility of the presidency.

"Changing the presidency by mob rule is not good for the country, and it has lost appeal to the people as well the international community. Those interested to become president should wait until election time," he said.

Espina said "it is only through the leadership of President Arroyo that our economy has reached a new level of stability."

He said real progress, as evidenced by the current momentum of poverty alleviation is now felt in many parts of the country, especially in the countryside.

Espina backed this claim with the result of the Social Weather Station’s (SWS) recent survey that indicated incidence of hunger in the country has markedly declined to 16.2 percent from the record-high 21.15 percent

In the Visayas, involuntary hunger incidence dropped from 21.7 percent to 14.3 percent during the last quarter of 2007, he said.

The governor here said that in Biliran, they have many things to be thankful to President Arroyo.

For instance, Biliran province has been included in the Roll-On Roll-Off (RORO) sub-system of the "Eastern Nautical Highway" through the development of RORO ports in the towns of Kawayan, Maripipi, and Naval.

Espina said full realization of this project will not only link Biliran Island to the other provinces across the country, but most importantly, place this province in the road-map of progress.

This will establish the onset of growing trade and tourism that, in turn, will improve the quality of life of the local people.

Also a doctor of medicine, Espina also hailed Arroyo’s concern for the poor that is being realized through the People’s Government Mobile Action (PGMA) Caravan, which is delivering basic socio-economic services to the people.

The PGMA rflects the programs and projects of the government to the poor provinces of the country.

He said although Biliran is no longer in the top ten list of poorest provinces, the PGMA Caravan is scheduled to visit here on Feb. 25 to address problems affecting the day-to-day living of the Biliranons.

What? The best? She condones corruption in government. This is a fact, not just hearsay. Those cabinet people talking of evidence seem not know what is evidence. Evidence is not limited simply to documentary evidence. There is also what is called testimonial evidence. Testimonies based on personal knowledge or experience. Persons who were there in the corruption game had personal knowledge of the facts. Lozada was one of such person. JDV is one. Bidol is another. Garciliano knew another. You know of many other more who had personal knowledge of acts of corruption in government. Only the president seem not to know them. Only cabinet people seem not to know them. And then you call her the best?
This government barrows "cake" from foreign governments, give to the people a spoon of the cake and the rest they put into their "stomach"! And the state would pay for the whole cake.

The consequence? The country pays huge interest of loan every year. And this yearly interest is automatically included in the annual budget. The legislative branch is stripped of its real power to make the budget because of that. Instead of funds to improve the salaries of teachers and to construct schools, the country appears to have none. Many of our teachers have to engage in moonlighting, sell goods to the pupils, buy their own visual aids, burden the PTA to build comfort rooms for the pupils, etc.

How dare you say she is the best! Maybe, best in corruption!

Under the Arroyo administration, the following might be the slogans of the times:

FALSEHOOD IS TRUTH
CORRUPTION IS SAINTLINESS
BLACK IS WHITE AND EVIL IS GOOD

At no time in the history of the current administration has the truth of these supposed “slogans” been more strongly demonstrated than the present. Consider the following:

An upright, incorruptible, right-thinking Chief Justice is proposed to be impeached, whereas a President who has been charged with corruption, violation of many provisions of the Constitution and other serious crimes, has always gotten away scot-free every time articles of impeachment are filed against her.

Whistle-blowers like Acsa Ramirez, Rodolfo Lozada and Maj. Ferdinand Marcelino are either wrongfully prosecuted, kidnapped and muzzled and criticized, while the likes of Benjamin Abalos and Virgilio Garciliano are allowed to resign without first being made to answer the charges against them.

A reformist governor like Ed Panlilio is constantly being subjected to all forms of political harassment, while congressmen and local government officials who have been wasting the people’s money are given even more money in brown paper bags to support a president whose legitimacy is constantly being questioned.

Generals who are accused of killing unarmed militants are praised in a joint session of Congress while other generals and officers who dare to criticize high officials for their questionable acts are arrested and detained.

The people are fed half-truths by government spokespersons. The president will not answer “political questions” from reporters, for fear, possibly, of giving away her plans for 2010. The truth, which is the oxygen of democracy, is kept hidden from the people. Sometimes it is exposed only at a critical time, as what happen when the treasonous Memorandum of Agreement on the Ancestral Domain became known only on the eve of its signing.

There’s a lot more of stuff like mentioned above, but the bottom-line is this: In this administration,

FALSEHOOD IS TRUTH
CORRUPTION IS SAINTLINESS
BLACK IS WHITE AND EVIL IS GOOD.

How can a sensible citizen support such government?
